It's true, not every painting turns out. But every panel and canvas can get a fresh start with Gamblin Oil Ground. Cover up your past work and re-use your surfaces when it feels right. Because, let’s face it, not every painting we make is love at first sight.

If your painting has high gloss or unwanted texture it helps to lightly sand beforehand. When sanding down any painting, always remember to protect yourself from airborne pigments! Use a quality dust mask, and wipe down your surfaces afterward with a damp cloth to remove stray dust particles.

Oil Ground requires no more than two very thin coats. Utilize a tool like our Ground and Gesso Blade for a thin, even coating from edge-to-edge. This makes cleanup a breeze with no rollers or brushes to rinse out afterward.

Your first coat should dry in 2-4 days, and the second coat needs an additional 3-5 days on average to be ready to paint on. Chilly studios with humid conditions may add several days time. In general, plan around 7-10 days from start to finish before your embark on your next masterpiece.

The thinner the layers, the faster the ground dries. And sometimes a little patience is your best friend!

💚May green is a semi-transparent, traditional brilliant yellow-green with good lightfastness from Schmincke's HORADAM watercolour series. It is a popular colour and among its other applications, is perfect for landscape painting and florals 💐
