10 foods we miss when we’re not in France 🇫🇷
Tariette probably wouldn’t exist if we hadn’t moved to the UK and started missing French food quite so much.
So when we’re back in Provence for the summer, there is inevitably a lot of catching up to do.
Not all of these are Provençal, not all are sophisticated, but these are 10 foods we crave from England and are making absolutely no effort to eat in moderation while we’re here.
Swipe to see our list 👉
1. Banon cheese
The predictable one, especially for a family from the Luberon.
Slightly controversially, our favourite isn’t actually certified Banon. We buy our “non-Banon Banon” from a cheesemaker at Apt market on Saturday mornings.
The creamier and stronger, the better.
And there’s something very satisfying about untying the raffia and un******ng it from its chestnut leaves before a long Sunday lunch.
2. Andouillette
Possibly France’s ultimate Marmite food.
We actually find it quite funny serving andouillette to people who have no idea what’s coming, especially English guests.
The smell usually gets a reaction before they’ve even tasted it. Even better when they look completely unimpressed by the whole thing while we’re sitting there thinking it’s absolutely delicious.
Definitely not for everyone.

3. That mousse au chocolat from Grand Frais
We should probably be able to make a brilliant mousse au chocolat ourselves.
We can’t.
Thankfully, we’ve found LA mousse.
Moussy and gooey at the same time, rich, decadent, incredibly chocolatey and somehow not sickly.
The large pot is particularly dangerous.
4. Proper tomatoes
I have tried dozens of varieties and producers in the UK.
Some are good. None quite taste like the tomatoes we eat here.
Juicy, sweet, meaty tomatoes that you could genuinely bite into and eat like an apple.
A little salt, olive oil and basil and you really don’t need much more.
