We were bowled over by FOLD’s incredible use of Prism for their takeover at Stone Techno Festival, resulting in a “magical experience” for attendees at the electronic music event at Zollverein – a UNESCO World Heritage site in Essen, Germany.

The team’s combined use of lighting and video created an atmospheric and immersive experience, all controlled by Titan and Prism (with Synergy connecting the software together).

In this video, Ryan Ashworth, Head of Lighting at FOLD, and James Newmarch, Technical Manager at FOLD, explain how they achieved a tactile experience by casting media content onto an LED “Vanish” screen, with fixtures behind it to give more depth than a flat video.

Prism is essential to FOLD’s approach, not just at Stone Techno but in all their shows that rely on layering content over fixtures.

As James explains, “[Prism] allows me to do what I want to do in a show from an experiential basis, then getting it into a desk and getting it programmed. For me, having a workflow that works quickly and can adapt is the most important thing.”

FOLD used a D9 alongside a D7, allowing James to pixel map or create fixture orders and groups while Ryan busked, without effecting the live performance. “It enables us to communicate with each other,” says Ryan, “without having to take time off the desk.”

Fantastic to see eleven-year-old Elliot getting behind a D7-215 at Congress Players production of GYPSY with MSL Group LTD this Summer.

With “a real passion (and superb knowledge) of the technical side of theatre”, Elliot took over the lighting controls for the entire second half of the show; a great opportunity for a young theatre tech to get hands-on experience in a live production environment.

A massive well done to Elliot, it’s not easy being responsible for live theatre lighting and it sounds like he did great a job.

A big thank you to the team at MSL, too, for giving a young lighting tech the opportunity to get practical experience with Avolites kit.

Welcome to the Avo50, Thiago Bonanato!

Thiago has been using Avolites for an incredible 31 years, working across touring, corporate and social events as part of Bonnalight Produções and LPL Lighting Productions.

Over that time, his work has included programming and operating lighting and video for major productions, with highlights including the Roberto Carlos tour, the opening and closing ceremonies of Copa America in Brazil, and a TV Globo special with Roberto Carlos at Allianz Parque Stadium.

Avolites has been a constant throughout Thiago’s career. In his own words: “For 31 years, I've only used Avolites at all my shows and events... I'm an Avolites fanatic and want to share this passion with everyone.”

With a wealth of experience in programming, operation and Titan Software, Thiago is a brilliant addition to the Avo50 community.

If Boomtown Fair has a beating heart, it's Grand Central.

Home to some of the festival's biggest artists, biggest crowds and biggest moments, it's the stage that defines the Boomtown experience.

Lighting Designer Simon George was tasked with bringing that environment to life, creating looks that worked from daylight sets through to headline performances long into the night.

Supplied by TSL, the stage lighting was controlled from a pair of Avolites D7-215 consoles running as main and back-up, ensuring every cue landed exactly where it needed to across the weekend.

Another huge year for one of the UK's most iconic festival stages. Great work from Simon and the entire team involved.
