Sintra x Karlite, the new unexpected colourful, recyclable worktop

For the new Sintra kitchen, Joyn partnered with recycled surface manufacturer Plasticiet to incorporate Karlite into the design, using it across both worktops and splashbacks. Made from recast automotive headlight plastic, Karlite is a fully recycled and recyclable material available at Surface Matter. Mineral pigments give it a distinctive translucency, and the result is a durable surface with a soft touch quality. 

Karlite comes in seven colours within Sintra’s customisable palette: Chalk, Jade, Glacial, Chestnut, Sienna, Quartz and Pomegranate. Come visit the Joyn showroom which features the Quartz colour atop the island, and the Chestnut offering a moodier tone to the main kitchen counter.

When it came to designing Joyn’s most colour-forward kitchen collection to date, the Portuguese town of Sintra and its pastel palaces and villas were the inspiration. Linolie & Pigment and their Satin Wood Oils were the undeniable choice to animate the vibrancy and effervescence of Sintra, using their beautiful linseed oil-based finish to celebrate the natural grain and texture of ash-fronted cabinetry without hiding it.

Working with the Linolie & Pigment colour range, Joyn curated a suite of 30 hues which can be incorporated into the Sintra design to create a completely colour drenched space, or taking a layered, mix-and-match approach.

Currently in Joyn’s Shoreditch showroom, the display kitchen features a bank of tall cabinetry in a striking custom ‘Sintra Yellow’, mixed especially for the new kitchen range to reflect the character and spirit of Sintra. A freestanding island in the colour ‘Cairo’, a preparation area with an integrated sink in a deep ‘Dusseldorf’ brown and a bench seat in ‘Toulouse’ are also displayed.

Our new colour led kitchen collection, Sintra, launches as a part of London Design Festival (London Design Festival ) tomorrow, Tuesday 15 September! Here’s a preview of what to expect.

Tactile and playful, the design combines ash fronts finished in a palette of coloured satin wood oils by Linolie & Pigment complimented by Karlite worktops combining durability with a distinctive translucent finish.

Join us to celebrate the launch and be one of the first to experience Sintra.

We recently worked with best-selling author and cook Ben Lippett (BEN LIPPETT) on a made-to-order kitchen for his South London home, as featured in The Telegraph (Telegraph Lifestyle - Telegraph Food), a space to live and work in tailored to the needs of Ben’s daily recipe development for his cookbooks and content. 

Designed in collaboration with Ben, the kitchen is informed by his expertise working in professional kitchens and maximising efficiency of movement. The space combines elements of our core ranges including cabinetry from our Copenhagen collection complimented by brushed stainless-steel worktops from the Palermo kitchen.
