I’ve always loved doing something a little unexpected in those in-between spaces - the ones you pass through, rather than spend a lot of time in.

For this dressing room in a Notting Hill project, we commissioned Eugenia Barrios Osborne to work her magic - painting stripes onto simple flat-panel MDF cupboard doors, carrying them up and across the ceiling to create a tented effect. A relatively simple treatment, but one that gives the space a little magic.

And I love the view through to the bathroom beyond - the theatrical drama of that green velvet and moiré curtain, providing a little glimpse of what has to be one of my favourite bathrooms we’ve designed.

Delicate florals and a soft palette in the master suite of our Parsons Green project. Country-house style meets London was the vibe. Deep green velvet curtains, our clients’ contemporary art and a modern lacquered four-poster bed add just a little edge to an otherwise pretty and feminine space.

I love a dressing room that acts as a little lobby to the master bedroom. Here we went for a wonderfully flattering pale pink on walls and joinery, with Bowood fabric on both the Roman blind and our Trove Seven chair. A fabulous vintage Italian Barovier pendant adds an unexpected twist. I like its jaunty little angle too.

In the bathroom, we kept things super classic - honed Carrara marble, polished nickel and warm white panelling with plenty of concealed storage.

A little first look at Tower House, Richmond – and our first foray into restaurant design.

When Nick House, founder of one our fave restaurants ‘Gold’ in Notting Hill, came to us, the brief was to create a place with soul. Nothing too shiny or perfect - reclaimed pieces, a touch of patina, filled with warmth and character. Basically music to our ears.

It’s right on the river in Richmond and we wanted it to feel like somewhere that had always been there - layered, atmospheric, a little eccentric and collected.

Very happy to finally share some pics by the wonderful Dean Hearne The food is really excellent, as are the cocktails - House on Fire is my personal favourite. Definitely worth a trip to Richmond for all the interiors lovers and foodies out there…and settling in for a very long, hazy lunch by the river

Downstairs in our Parsons Green project, things get a little moodier…

We wanted the basement to feel wonderfully cocooning and cosy – a darker, more intimate counterpoint to the lighter, fresher spaces on the ground floor.

The corridor is wrapped in one of our favourite Antoinette Poisson wallpapers, with oodles of built-in storage tucked neatly away and a WC and utility hidden off to the side.

In the main sitting room, we really embraced the lack of natural light rather than fighting it. Deep petrol blue grass-cloth and tonal paint wrap the walls, woodwork and coffered ceiling…layered with antique furniture, patterned upholstery, blue and white ceramics and the deep, red lacquered pendant overhead. It feels grown-up and atmospheric but still really comfortable - the sort of room you want to hunker down and watch a movie in.

At the back of the house is a multi-functional TV room that doubles as an occasional guest bedroom. This space gets much more natural light, so we went in the opposite direction with zingy orange walls, pale blue joinery and plenty of pattern.

I love how each of these spaces has its own distinct personality yet feel very cohesive. Proof that basements definitely don’t need to feel like the poor relation!

Thrilled to finally share our Parsons Green project, featured today in House & Garden Magazine

Working alongside Icon Architects we transformed this Victorian townhouse into a warm, characterful family home – balancing the original architecture with colour, pattern, bespoke detailing and a rather lovely mix of old and new.

One of my favourite master suites - courtesy of our Islington project. A restrained base layered with a little mischief as the cherry on top…always a good combination 🍒

Our TROVE by Studio Duggan Holden chests provide oodles of storage either side of the bed, and underfoot, an old-time favourite by Studio Shamshiri for Christopher Farr. I adore the hand-painted squiggles by my wonderfully clever friend - wrapping every cupboard, drawer and door en route to the bathroom.

In there, a tadelakt-clad shower and custom oak vanity topped in richly veined Rosso Levanto sit on top of a terracotta floor.

Quite grown-up at first glance. A little less so when you look closer.

One of my very favourite parts of any project happens long before the fabrics, finishes or furniture are chosen.

It always starts with the floor plan. Really getting under the skin of a house. Understanding how a family lives, where coats and school bags land, where the hoover lives, where morning coffee is enjoyed, where everyone naturally gathers, and where they retreat when they need a moment of quiet.

It’s often tempting to think bigger is better, but I’m increasingly convinced the opposite is true. We seem to have reached peak open plan and, for good reason, we’re rediscovering the joy of rooms with purpose. Cosy sitting rooms, studies, boot rooms, laundry rooms, larders and proper dining rooms for lingering over supper, alongside a smaller everyday table in the kitchen for family life.

I love creating homes with spaces that each have their own character and purpose. Somewhere to entertain, somewhere to work, somewhere to escape with a book, somewhere for the inevitable life admin to happen out of sight. It isn’t about making a house feel smaller – it’s about making it work harder and feel better.

I genuinely think this is where we add some of the greatest value for our clients. These early decisions influence everything that comes afterwards, which is why it’s always a shame to be brought into a project once the layout has already been fixed. Get the bones right and everything else has a much stronger foundation
