Come rain or shine, there’s always something waiting to be discovered at The Old Maltings Antique Centre, and with a hot and sunny week ahead, it’s the perfect time for a leisurely browse and a little treasure hunting.

Ready for the week ahead, the Wolds End Antiques bay has had a reshuffle, with the addition of three new display cabinets nestled into place amongst a carefully curated collection of antiques and vintage treasures, creating more space for yet more antique and vintage finds for you to discover at your leisure.

Here you’ll find sparkling crystal and pretty pressed glassware, punch bowls complete with their delicate twinkling cups for summer-inspired tipples, perhaps decorated with slices of cucumber and freshly picked borage, alongside colourful drinking glasses, elegant wine glasses and vibrant water goblets ready to catch the afternoon light across vintage linen-covered summer tables.

You know the sort…

The pressed-glass or crystal bowl piled high with Grandad’s carefully grown strawberries, grown from seed in vintage terracotta pots (yes, we have those too).

Cake stands laden with butterfly cakes, warm fruit scones and homemade Victoria sponge.

Pedestal bowls heaped with cream-filled profiteroles, drizzled with Nan’s famous chocolate sauce.

The bowl chosen for summer strawberries, chocolate mousse or a garden party salad is equally at home at Christmas, filled with that legendary boozy sherry trifle that no one can ever quite have enough of, liberally scattered with hundreds and thousands.

And what would a well-laid table be without the finishing touches?

Vintage and decorative cutlery sits ready to grace the table once more, from buffet forks and nostalgic bone-handled knives to serving spoons polished bright by generations of use, elegant cake slices and cake plates waiting to show off a homemade Victoria sponge.

Each place setting punctuated by colourful drinking glasses, sparkling wine glasses and vibrant water glasses catching the sunlight light across vintage linen-covered tables.

And can one ever really have enough teaspoons?

Lastly, no Summer gathering is ever quite complete without a jelly from a traditional glass mould, wobbling to perfection and echoing the jewel-like colours of the glassware nearby …. another piece of nostalgia that takes us straight back to those halcyon days of childhood.

One of the joys of antiques and vintage is that every piece has already been loved once and is simply waiting to be loved again.

These are the familiar pieces that carry our memories with them, quietly weaving themselves through family life, becoming part of everyday rituals, special occasions and treasured family traditions.

All this, from just one bay.

You’ll find Wolds End Antiques (EDH) upstairs. Head up the small staircase by the side of the till, turn left, and we’re the second bay on the left.

At The Old Maltings you’ll find over 40 dealers spread across two floors, offering an ever-changing collection of antiques, vintage finds, curiosities and decorative treasures.

And, with its thick old walls, it’s always beautifully cool in The Old Maltings, making it the perfect place to escape the heat for a leisurely mooch and an afternoon of treasure hunting.

So whether the sun is shining or the rain is falling, take your time, have a wander and enjoy the hunt. You never know what might be waiting to come home with you.
