And still they come! This is the penultimate painting, just completed, and the latest addition to my Isle of Wight Stations collection. Ryde St John's will be next and then the collection will be complete! Prints will be availalble from Monday, 11th May at Little Art at the Barn at Arreton Barns, or direct from me. Here's the caption:
Ashey Station
With the opening of the Ryde & Newport Railway, the only passing loop was at Ashey, which included a siding that ran to a chalk quarry under Ashey Down and which also served the Ashey Racecourse. The Southern Railway later made improvements to the Station, but the cessation of horse racing in the 1930s saw passenger numbers drop and the station was downgraded to unmanned halt status. Ashey Station’s recent acquisition by the Isle of Wight Steam Railway will ensure its preservation and trains between Wootton and Smallbrook Junction, via Havenstreet, will once again stop at this idyllic location.

Here's the very latest addition to Ivan Berrymans IW Railway Stations collection. This is Watchingwell Halt.
You can view the original painting at Little Art at the Barn at Arreton Barns from tomorrow (Wednesday 6th March) and prints will be available the following day. Here is the caption:
Watchingwell Halt
Opened on 19th June 1897, Watchingwell Halt was hardly ever used by the general public, being that it was built only as a private station to serve the family, staff and visitors to the Swainston Estate. For its first 26 years, Watchingwell was not listed in public timetables and trains only stopped on request. When the Southern Railway took over the line in 1923, Watchingwell finally became a public halt and was added to timetables, but its location was so remote that it was little used and became a private residence when the line between Newport and Freshwater was closed in 1953.
