🐾 FIREWORKS AFFECT MORE THAN PETS 🎆
As a cattery owner, I see first-hand how deeply fireworks can affect cats and the families who care for them.
For some pets, it isn’t simply a case of being frightened for a few hours on one night. The unpredictable bangs can cause fear, anxiety and distress that can continue for days or even weeks.
And it isn’t only animals.
Firework noise can also be extremely difficult for people living with PTSD, autism, learning disabilities and sensory sensitivities. Sudden, unpredictable explosive noises can cause genuine anxiety, distress and sensory overload.
The UK Government is currently consulting on changes to fireworks regulations, including proposals to reduce the noise level of fireworks available to the general public. The consultation specifically asks for views about the effects of fireworks noise on animals and vulnerable people.
📢 PLEASE HAVE YOUR SAY
You don’t have to be a campaigner or an expert.
If fireworks affect your pets, your family, yourself or someone you care about, please take a few minutes to read the consultation and share your own experiences and views.

🏠 AND IF LICENCES ARE INTRODUCED…
There is another issue that I believe needs to be considered carefully.
If the Government decides that licensing should be required for businesses or premises involved in fireworks, then licensing must include proper checks.
For example, where a premises is already licensed as a kennel or cattery, councils should have systems in place to check existing animal-licensing records before issuing another relevant licence.
As a cattery, I believe animal welfare and public safety should be considered together — particularly where businesses are operating close to animals that may already be vulnerable to fireworks.
🐾 Our pets don’t understand why the noise is happening.
They only know that something frightening and unpredictable is happening around them.
Please have your say — and please share this post so other pet owners and people affected by fireworks know they can take part too.
