We’re feeling a little emotional after this photo was sent to us by a relative of our founder, Annie Furnass.

We’re feeling pride. Pride in what we do, and in everyone who has been part of this business over the last century and more.

It feels incredibly special to be part of such a long standing story.

But there’s also a sense of loss.

Loss of the high street, and of what it once meant to the people on both sides of the till.

For customers, it meant community. A place to make new friends, catch up with old ones, share a bit of gossip, and feel part of something bigger.

It was a reason to leave the house. To stretch your legs, get some sunlight, talk to people, breathe in fresh air.

For businesses, it meant reliability. Knowing you’d have people passing through daily. Knowing you were competing with just a handful of others, if any, rather than thousands online.

And enjoyment. Speaking to real people, building deep rooted relationships, hearing voices and seeing smiles instead of reading words on a screen.

We wanted to share this photograph as a reminder of just how important community is.

Social connection doesn’t just increase happiness, it helps us live longer.

And supporting local businesses keeps our economy alive and our people in work.

Penrith has some of the most beautiful shops we could ever ask for.

| Happy Birthday to ME! 🥂

Yesterday was one of those quietly lovely moments~ another year around the sun, beautifully timed with the perfect finishing touch to my staircase.

The team at are such a pleasure to work with.
From start to finish, everything is handled with care and precision. Their attention to detail aligns perfectly with our vision, which is why they remain a trusted contractor and supplier we work closely with.

Miss Velvet fully approves of the finish 🐾

The day was rounded off perfectly with friends popping by ~ armed with homemade lemon meringue pie 😋

| A little weekend update from our showroom & design studio ✨

Due to M6 road closures and travel disruption, we’ll be closed on Saturday 10th & 17th January.

We’re open as normal Tuesday–Friday, 9.30am–5.00pm (Mondays closed) ~ do pop into the shop/showroom for some post-Christmas inspiration when January can feel a little bleak, or to chat with us about interior design projects for 2026 ✨
