Pittemweem is a small fishing village in the East Neuk of Fife. It has beautiful country and coastal scenery and fabulous food, galleries and crafts. It’s about 20 minutes south of St Andrews, an historic town famous for its Cathedral, University and golf. We sell a wide and varied selection of items for your knit and crochet projects. Including yarns from Rowan, Jamieson’s of Shetland, Rico Designs, Fyberspates and more! We’ve got needles and hooks from KnitPro and Pony and handmade notions from Fripperies and Bibelots and bags by Doris and Hazel. We also have a huge library of books from independent designers such as Kate Davies, Marie Wallin, Felicity Ford, The Crochet Project and the quarterly magazine from Pom Pom. The most work per square inch of any project I’ve ever knitted? Maybe! But it’s worth it.

This is Brèid by Kate Davies, a little stranded colourwork triangle you can wear as a headscarf or a cowl.

I knitted ours in Wee County Yarns Kinross 4ply in shades Cromarty and Quartz, and I swapped the i-cord ties for a button and loop.

It’s knitted in the round so that means there’s steeks! 😱

You basically knit a cone shape then cut it open to make the triangle.

You secure the steek stitches by needle felting which is really effective and satisfying.

Kinross is a non-superwash lambswool which felts easily and blooms into a soft, almost cashmere-like fabric when washed.

I’ve put together a step by step blog post with lots of photos and tips. You need less than a skein of each colour.

Feldmark by Martina Behm might be the most fun you can have with a single ball of self-striping yarn.

We used Lang Infinity so the stripes never repeat… every change of direction gives you a surprise.

Feldmark looks complicated but it’s a really straightforward knit. Simple increasing, no picking up stitches, and the yarn does all the colour work. I used 3.75mm needles and one 100g ball (260m) of shade 01, and got a striking and squishy scarf 162cm long.

We have an amazing collection of stitch markers in the shop right now. 😊

We’ve been stocking Fripperies & Bibelots stitch markers for 15 years and there’s a reason for that. Sarah’s RingOs stitch markers are simply the best for marking your knit projects.

* They’re very neat and discreet so they don’t get tangled in your yarn.
* They come in 2 sizes - RingOs fit up to 4mm needles and RingOs XL fit up to 8mm.
* They come in little storage tins so they are easy to stash and find in your project bags.
* They are sold as cute colour themes like Biscuit Jar or Rock Chick but if, like me, you have more than one tin, you can mix them all together and make your own combos to suit your yarn and needles.

Now there are a few of negatives. RingOs are FIXED ring markers so they do not open, they can only be placed on to your knitting needle and cannot be attached to a stitch - unless you knit it in! So these won’t work for crocheters.

Also, they are so neat and discreet... they tend to get lost in your sofa if they ping off your needles. 😆

They also sell out regularly and as each marker is handmade by Sarah... it can take a while before we’re able restock.

So this time we’ve ordered even more!

Pittenweem yarn shop open everyday during the pittenweemartsfestival. 10am to 5pm from 1st August to the 8th August.

We are packed full of yarn, books and notions.

We’ve got kids craft kits and our own yarn kits and a huge range of samples for you to squish and try on.

There’s a giant field set aside for parking, just follow the signs, and lots of places to eat and of course over 190 artists and makers to visit throughout the village!

There’s a new coffee table update on the website, and it’s all change with two new projects. Although I’ve left the green yarn from the finished Bao Bao Shawl on the table as it looks soooo good with the cool pink of the new sock, the neon pink of the neverending scarf and the grey stripes of my new summer tee. 😍
