Now that is what I call rain!! 🌧️🌧️☺️

It was even heavier earlier but my phone wouldn't cooperate! Had some thunder and lightning as well. ⛈️ All my empty water butts almost full!! 💚 The garden feels like it has relaxed...it has definitely appreciated today!! I hope all areas suffering wildfires have had similar rain!! 🤞🤞

Thursday we had a promising forecast... But this is all we got for maybe 10 minutes. 😔 Better than nothing though! Garden and wildlife a bit happier! ☺️

Hope the areas with wildfires had more rain than we did! 🌧️🤞

Spent some of the day cleaning out some of the empty water butts...every cloud ...!! 😄

Spent a lovely morning at Newent Community Gardens with the boys! 🥰 What a lovely bunch!! ☺️ Helped out a bit, including a little bit about Yellow Legged Asian Hornet, the invasive non-native that will decimate our invertebrates 🐝🦋🪲 if it gets established. See my story or British Beekeepers, or BBKA or National Bee Units websites for more details. 👍 We all need to keep an eye 👀 out for it and report if we have seen one!! NBU will monitor and destroy the nest.

Anyway there was lots of lovely veg in the Community Garden or Space to Grow as it is called. 💚 The pic is my total outdoor cucumber crop (as I am greenhouse-less)... He-ho!! Tasted great though!! 😋

I will be helping at this little event in Newent at the community garden tomorrow. I will be armed with a pile of Id guides and books so that we can try and identify any bees and other pollinators!! ☺️🐝🐞🦋🪲

Bit quiet in Newent today...but the temperature was so much better! ☺️ And dare I say it, early on it was a bit chilly under the market house!! 😄 Got some tasty gluten free and gluten filled (!!) sausages from Plump Hill Farm . Also some mutton mince to make burgers. Don't eat much meat (sorry if you don't!) and only from a known source. High welfare and local. 🥰

Who knows who this belongs to?? 🤔 It is a footprint from a footprint tunnel...a way of monitoring for certain species. They just need to wander through having stepped on the pad of charcoal mixed with olive oil...so non-toxic!! 😀

I promise I will give you the answer but I reckon you should all have a guess first!! ☺️ Or of course you may know!! 😀 It is from a work site we are monitoring prior to road stabilisation works. 👍

Not a moth I have met before ...do you have any guesses!!?? 🤔😄 We have a related species a bit earlier in the season ...the Scarlet Tiger....this, however, is a Jersey Tiger. 🥰 They are rather fond of buddleia...and there is one just outside the window... this one had popped into the lounge to say hi! 😄 Good job it did otherwise I'd have missed it. It is uncommon in these parts but I believe it is spreading...our ridiculous weather probably has something to do with this one turning up!! 😯🦋🦋

At the monthly Newent Saturday Market in the morning under the market house... debating what to bring, although I think the temperature will be more reasonable. 🤞🥵

Did you get to see the eclipse?? We went to a gathering at no1 son's school...it did cloud over a bit .. first clouds we'd seen all day!! We did get to see it though, although couldn't get the colander to work!! 60 years till the next one!! 🌘

I will be at Newent Saturday Market....on Saturday!! 😄 We shall have to see what I bring... some things may stay behind if it is too hot!! 🥵 Think it is meant to be a more sensible temperature. 🤞

I am not sure if it shows up in the reel...but got home from Somerset to find home swathed in smoke, smelling like a bonfire inside and out!! 😯 It had been quite smokey as far back as High Leadon, nearer Gloucester. Turns out it is another wildfire 😱 but not a local one... this is smoke from Ebbw Vale!! 😯 My heart goes out to the local people there! 💔

How is anybody else doing? Those of you further west will be getting it worse! 😯

What will it take for politicians to wake up...it isn't to smell the coffee...it is to smell the burning heather!! 😡 This is a climate emergency!! Can you imagine how much wildlife has perished in these fires!?!? 😭

A new plant for me... never clapped eyes on it before!! 👀 Bumbles and honey bees having a lovely time on someone's front wall. I looked it up...'Aptenia cordifolia', fast-growing, prostrate succulent. 💚 Might have rescued a bit that would have been lost when they trimmed the hedge... 🤭 Not frost hardy so I could never grow it other than in a pot.

Bit of an odd day. Took Mum for a test at the hospital..not good news..but at least it was an answer and action can now be taken... 😐

Oops indeed!! 🤭 This is what happens to bath melts (Lavender Honey Bath melts in this case!) when you take your eye off the ball when you are at a market in a large barn with a polythene roof The Fold on a hot day!!! 🌞🌞 Guess it shows they work!! 😆 Some retrieval work required!! 🙄

No markets this weekend... family business instead. Will hopefully be at Newent Town Council monthly Saturday market next weekend. 🤞
