A week in our studio goes by quickly.
This week it’s been like a week of “Firsts” …
Mondays first job was turning the pots made on the Pottery Introduction Day and get them ready for firing. We had our first visit this year from the lovely Adrian from Northern Kilns, giving our kilns a service and health check, it’s always great to see him and he does such an amazing job. Two of our Members, Janet and Martin, who usually throw on the wheel have challenged themselves to make their first handbuilt coil pot and are making great progress; it’s always good to try new techniques. In Leyla’s Throwing School the students started their first Finishing Set which includes learning how to turn their pots, refine surfaces, making handles and lips etc. Guy, another one of our members finished his first Great Crested Grebe sculpture, it looks fantastic. Rachel, who always likes to challenge herself is making her first pierced landscape pot. Friday we had a great handbuilding workshop making pet bowls. This was the first experience for the students to Handbuilding with clay, learning how to design their bowl, prepare clay slabs, construct their bowl and explore decoration and created their own beautiful unique bowls fit for any special canine friend!
Definitely a week of “Firsts” and a lot to celebrate!
