✨ Ever wondered what the white powdery spots are on the bottom of freshly fused glass? 🤔👇
If you are new to using a microwave kiln, you might notice some white dust or residue stuck to the back of the glass cabochons after a firing.
That powder is actually the remnants of kiln paper (also known as fiber paper).
Here is what you need to know:
• Why it's there: Kiln paper is an essential barrier placed on the floor of your microwave kiln before you lay down your glass.
• What it does: It stops the glass from melting and permanently fusing directly to the ceramic base of your kiln when it reaches those ultra-hot temperatures.
• Cleaning them up: Once your kiln and glass have completely cooled down, you can easily scrape or wipe that leftover powder right off the back of your glass dots so they are smooth, shiny, and ready for your next jewellery or craft project!
