Restoring a Piece of Conisbrough History 🏡🎨

Today marks the beginning of something very special for Divine Decor and Maintenance.

We’ve been entrusted with the restoration of Rock House in Conisbrough — a remarkable historic property with a story stretching back generations.

Rock House was already an established and well-known property in Conisbrough during the 1800s. Historical records show it being mentioned as far back as 1879, when its impressive conservatory and gardens were noted in the local press. By the early 1900s, the property was home to the Nicholson family, who played an important part in the local community.

This isn't just another decorating job.

It's a piece of local history.

The current owners had struggled to find decorators willing to take on a property of this age, scale and character — so this is where Divine Decor and Maintenance stepped in.

We’ve now started the external restoration, carefully bringing the building back to life while respecting the character and craftsmanship that have survived for generations.

And that's only the beginning.

Once the exterior is complete, we'll be moving inside to carry out further decorating and real restoration work throughout the property starts.

For us, projects like this are about much more than applying paint. It's about understanding the building, respecting what is already there and making sure that the work we carry out will stand the test of time.

There's something pretty special about standing here today, knowing that people were walking through these grounds well over a century ago — and now we're here helping to write the next chapter of Rock House.

A historic building. A traditional restoration. And another project that we're incredibly proud to be part of.

✨ Another restoration project completed! ✨

This job involved bringing two cross-lined, papered rooms back to life. We started by re-adhering the cross-lined paper, as it was hiding very old messy plaster. Dealing with it, however, required a more delicate approach to sanding and filling, carefully restoring them to create a fresh, clean finish while keeping the character of the rooms intact.

We also fitted new skirting boards on one half of one room and new fixtures and fittings in both rooms and the really popular Caribbean splash feature wall.

The end result looks sharp, and we are now waiting for the blinds to be fitted and new furniture to arrive. 🏡✨

Another project completed this weekend. 🤩
After carefully removing the existing old concrete lintel that was installed as a threshold and reinstated the brickwork to seamlessly match the surrounding brickwork leaving a strong, tidy, and professional finish. Attention to detail is key to achieving results that blend in perfectly. 🧱
The remaining pointing is still to do, but due to the size of the job it will have to wait.

Who says you need a new door to give your home a fresh look? 🚪🎨

This PVC door has been professionally prepared, primed, and painted, giving it a completely new lease of life for a fraction of the cost of rep@lacing it.

Both front and back doors completed with the internal and external sides painted with Aqua Guard protection.

What was once cracking plaster is now a solid, secure structure throughout. With new wall ties installed and the issulation topped up, the internal side of the window resealed and the brickwork fully repaired, the house will be noticeably warmer during the winter months. The floorboards have been levelled with all creaks removed, and the staircase has been strengthened and re-fixed to both the inner and outer stringers, making it completely solid underfoot.

Still some more joinery work to be completed skirting then a few internal doors to sort, then onto the decorating for the final touch.

Its been a long job with still plenty to do before the next one starts.
