This is your opportunity to slow down and create a cosy space.
Yes, we design Kitchens but also specialise in adapting entire homes. A client approached us to design their kitchen but also desired a snug room. We believe we have successfully met their brief!

SWIPE FOR THE BEFORE…
From closed-off to completely open 🤍

Some walls were knocked down and transformed this kitchen/dining room into a bright, flowing space made for real living. What was once cramped and disconnected is now the heart of the home—perfect for cooking, hosting, and everyday family moments.

There are so many beautiful kitchen posts on Instagram but many are unobtainable to the vast majority of us, who are a little more “spatially challenged” shall we say.

With the average sized UK home not more than 1000 square feet, sometimes there are not enough realistic inspiring pictures. Smaller spaces can be welcoming, functional and lovely to look at. The trick is ensuring there is a place for everything, and everything can easily be put in its place.

This “dust grey” slab door kitchen in Newbury, Berkshire is effectively a long galley kitchen that was opened up into the adjoining dining room. This creates an open plan kitchen diner for a young family. Black handles and sleek white and grey quartz worktops create a simple scandi feel, which is still inviting thanks to the wood effect LVT flooring.

A small utility room can be a game changer if you scan squeeze one in. This space shows it doesn’t need to be a huge “insta-worthy” boot room - just a large tall cupboard, stacked washer dryer, sink and a few shelves is all you really need. Again - a place for everything and everything in its place.

We’re here for the details. “What colour should we paint the walls?” “Does this light work?” Even if we are not managing or supplying these final touches we are happy to advise - because it works for us too if the finished result is stunning!

Our client on this Berkshire kitchen project came to us to ask if this light would work - we said “absolutely yes!” We also designed the false chimney in the wall colour - but with the cornice to match the cabinetry. It’s these sometimes small touches that elevate a design from just a “kitchen” to “beautiful kitchen”.

And then this client was so happy they came back to us after the kitchen and utility install for under stairs storage too. There is no greater honour or compliment than our clients asking us back into their homes years after the initial work is finished 🥰

Honestly designed with life in mind.

Why do we charge for design?

We face this question a lot, or more often we face clients simply disappearing. We charge for design when some others do not because we design your whole space for you. We are not just looking at where to put the oven. We are looking at your entire space and how it flows for you and your family. When we meet you we will ask questions that mean we get to know you and your lifestyle. We are not interested in where you want to put the fridge. We want to know who lives with you. Who cooks. What you like to cook. If you have pets. If you work from home.

We consider things like:
• where will keys, post and handbags go?
• where will mobile phones be charged?
• How easy is it to get to the washing line?
• can you get to your favourite cookery books?
• is there storage for toys, or little piles (IYKYK!)?
• where do shoes by the back door go?
• are the windows and doors in the right places?

We don’t just do kitchen layouts. We design your whole kitchen space, and the lifestyle that goes with it. And then your design fee comes off your kitchen order anyway.

We believe in doing it once and doing it well. So we think of everything so you don’t have to.

Honestly designed with life in mind.

Sometimes a brief from a client seems contradictory - “traditional, light and open” seem difficult to combine - but with our design experience and great suppliers this Berkshire kitchen is now simultaneously both traditional and fresh.

The Sage Green and Brilliant White shaker cabinets from are bright, and the original AGA works well with the new traditionally styled tiled floor.

Stunning quartz worktops from tie the elements together, and the client was most pleased when the house didn’t fall down when the wall was knocked through by !!!

Installation was obviously by KTap Carpentry… Honestly designed with life in mind.

If you want to join our growing group of delighted clients give us a call 😊

Ways with wood flooring 🪵

What do all of these kitchens have in common? Some sort of wooden flooring of course! We are big fans of wood or wood effect flooring in the kitchen for a few reasons:

1) It adds texture, which equals interest. Whether consisting of grains or knots there is natural variation. This means you can keep everything else simple and plain, but the space won’t seem stark.

2) Warmth! Wood flooring adds warmth to any space. If you want to go all grey and white with the rest totally fine because your space won’t ever seem cold and uninviting. Not to mention physical warmth - naturally warmer underfoot (both real wood and engineered or products like LVT) than stone, your toes won’t be as cold in the winter!

3) It is more forgiving than stone flooring. This is important if you’re clumsy like me - your phone or iPad might survive more drops than it would otherwise 😆💥

4) There are so many options you can find one you love - wide planks, lots of knots, a greyer whitewash, herringbone… All of these floors are wood, but they are all quite different, and they are all loved by our clients all over Hampshire & Berkshire.

When we design your kitchen we will advise on all aspects of the space - even those like flooring and paint that we may not necessarily be involved with the supply of. This is because we understand the whole space needs to work together, not just bits of it…

Colour in kitchens… Our advice is always the same - if you love it DO IT! But do it in a considered way. Never follow colour fashion. Keep your bigger spends more neutral, and include colour in the way of walls, furniture, tiled splashbacks, sideboards or islands. And never think “the kitchen” stops at the items on your kitchen order - cushions, bar stools, art work, a beautiful big bowl - they are all part of the space in the same way as the worktop or the door fronts. If you’re unsure where to start with making your new kitchen “you” then we would love to work with you. We promise you will love your finished space and it will reflect you and who you are 🌈
