Natural Stone or Porcelain?

It’s one of the biggest decisions when planning a patio.

Some people choose natural stone for the character. The variation, the texture, the way it softens into a garden over time. That’s why ranges like Madras and Ashlar Bricks are always favourites.

Others want something lower maintenance and easier to live with, which is where porcelain comes in.

Neither is better. It just depends how you want your garden to feel and how you want to use it.

We know how much you all love a Minster chequer floor and honestly so do we. Here we’ve used Minster Cream and Taupe in the 300x300mm size on the floor, paired with Minster Cream 600x600mm on the walls. A good way to keep the chequerboard as the focal point while carrying the same finish through the rest of the space.

Shown here as a bathroom concept using our Minster range, click the link in our bio to see Minster in other spaces.

Some home trends are starting to feel a bit dated in 2026.
Here are 5 we think are on their way out 👇

1. Cold grey floors
Grey was the safe choice for years, but it can make a space feel a lot colder than you think. Warmer stone looks and earthy tones are here to stay.

2. Matching everything
Tiles, units, worktops all the same shade? It can make a room feel flat. Mixing tones and textures adds much more personality and makes a house feel a home.

3. Gloss everywhere
Gloss still works in places but full glossy kitchens and bathrooms are making way for softer matt finishes.

4. Playing it safe with tile size
The standard 600x300 still works but more of you are choosing larger formats, brick tiles and more considered layouts.

5. Choosing tiles last
This is the mistake we see most! Your tiles set the tone for the whole room, so they’re worth thinking about early.

Not quite our usual showroom attire! ✨

Last Friday we headed to Birmingham for the Tile Association Awards 2026, where we were delighted to be finalists for Retailer of the Year.

Although we didn't bring home the trophy this time, being shortlisted was an achievement we're incredibly proud of. It was a fantastic evening and a great opportunity to catch up and meet with many familiar faces from across the industry.

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists and a big thank you to

One of the biggest worries people have when choosing a patio? That they'll spend all that money and it won't feel right once it's finished. Usually that's why people end up stuck between ten different options.

What we often find is that the tiles people love years later aren't necessarily the trendiest ones. They're the ones that feel natural, work with the house and don't fight for attention every time you look outside.

That's why warm stone tones are always a safe bet. They sit comfortably alongside planting, brickwork and changing seasons and they tend to age far better than whatever happens to be trending that year.

Our Hexham Beige Exterior Porcelain is a good example of that.

Save this if you're planning a patio and trying not to overthink every decision 🤍
