I used to feel a little embarrassed that I’d never actually seen the Mona Lisa in person. But then again, perhaps it’s all just a bit of hype. Still, I didn’t think it was fair to judge it without having seen it for myself. Now I can say with certainty that it’s a fine painting, but by no means the most beautiful one in the Louvre. At least, that’s my opinion. Art is, of course, a very personal thing, and everyone sees it differently.
I had a lovely long weekend with my daughter. We only caught a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower in the distance. We went to soak up the authentic local atmosphere and culture.

There’s so much I learned during the many years I spent at art school. Some lessons stayed with me, others faded away.

But one of the most valuable things I discovered later in my studies was the art of removing parts. And perhaps even painting parts away again.

By removing, erasing, and leaving space, layers begin to appear. The painting becomes more intriguing, more open, more alive.

Not everything needs to be painted. Sometimes, what is left unseen is just as important as what is visible. The viewer’s eye completes the story.

I love the calm and timeless feeling that the Japandi trend can bring into a home.

But… an entire room in beige can feel a little too safe and, dare I say, a bit boring.

My preference? Keep the base calm and serene, and add one or a few true eye-catchers that bring character, colour and personality into the space.
