🐎 Drop #224 | 2 x AREAWARE Fauna Large Cat Cushion | $30 each or $50 for pair | Ross Menuez Design | Two Available

Meet the cat that never sheds. These are genuine AREAWARE Fauna cushions, designed by New York's Ross Menuez. Part cushion, part soft sculpture, they bring instant character to a reading chair, bed, or shelf.

I have two available, so grab one or take the pair for a matching set. The Fauna series takes its inspiration from Victorian shaped pillows, with artwork drawn from the first mass-produced animal illustrations of the 19th century. The result is something that feels both vintage and quietly modern, which is exactly why these have a cult following among design lovers.

Made from 100 percent organic cotton with a plush fill, and each carrying its original AREAWARE Fauna label.

🐎 Drop #223 | Portia Actinotherapy Goggles | $20 | Boxed & Complete | Made in England

Straight from the golden age of "artificial sunlight" treatment, these Portia Non-Flam Actinotherapy Goggles are a genuine slice of early medical history. Made by Solport Brothers Ltd in England, they were worn to protect the eyes during ultra violet ray therapy, a hugely popular treatment from the 1930s through the 1950s believed to cure everything from skin complaints to low spirits.

The deep bottle-green lenses fold flat into their own little dome, and the original twisted elastic strap is still intact. "Non-Flam" was a genuine selling point back then, because rival goggles made from cheaper material had a nasty habit of catching fire under the lamps. These survive complete with their bold red original box and all its charmingly earnest instructions.

A brilliant conversation piece and a rare find in this condition. Perfect styled on a shelf of curiosities, a bookshelf vignette, or as a quirky gift for the collector who has everything. Objects like this rarely turn up complete and boxed.

🐎 Drop #222 | Antique Salter N.Z. Post & Telegraph Postal Scale | $125 | Genuine NZ P&T provenance | Made in England

Straight from the counter of a New Zealand post office, this is a Salter Postal Parcel Balance stamped N.Z. P.&T. dept, the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Department. Salter had been making scales in England since 1760, and this one crossed the world to weigh parcels and letters for the Kiwi postal service. The enamel dial still reads beautifully: SALTER, Postal Parcel Balance, For Postal Use Only, 30lb by 1oz.

This is the larger 30lb model, so it has real presence. Cast iron body in its original pale postal green, with a generous curved scoop and that lovely aged patina only a working piece earns over a century. The dial face is clean and crisp, the pointer intact, and every marking still clear.

Bought as decor rather than a working scale, it is a statement shelf or console piece with genuine local history behind it. Rust and worn paint throughout are part of the charm and honest to its age. Style it as is with a soft brush and light oil, no restoration needed.

🐎 Drop #221 | The Weston "Mounty" Stamp Album | $25 | RCMP cover art | Starter world collection

A little window to the world, printed in Rhyl, North Wales and carried home from Woolworths by some lucky kid decades ago. The Weston "Mounty" album came out of Thomas Cliffe Ltd, the famous Welsh "Philatelic Factory" that sorted stamps by the ton and sent them out in packets across Britain from the 1930s. The cover is the star: a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer on horseback, shading his eyes across the pines and mountains in that bold red and black print that only mid century paper does properly.

Inside is a genuine starter collection, hinged and tucked in by hand. You'll spot pages of used world stamps including India, Pakistan, Kuwait, Iran (printed here as its older name, formerly Persia), the USA, Peru, Paraguay and more. Half the romance is in the geography that no longer reads the same on a map. There's even a printed "How to start a Stamp Collection" guide in the front, complete with the old trick of soaking stamps off envelopes.

A proper statement piece with genuine service history. This is a full-size timber artillery crate that once carried two 105mm smoke rounds, dated 1993 and still wearing its original olive drab paint, hand-stencilled markings and factory packing label inside the lid.

One end carries the batch and weight stamps, the top shows the full 105MM HOW and SMK HC BE stencils plus the intact hazard label, and the inside lid still holds the typed packing card signed off by the packer in 1993. SOLD 🐎 Drop #219 | Vintage Fawn Pyrography Lidded Bowl | $15 | Hand-Turned Wood | Mid-Century Bambi Charm

A sweet piece of mid-century warmth. This hand-turned wooden bowl comes with its own fitted lid, and the lid is where the magic is: a delicate fawn, wood-burned in fine pyrography lines and washed with soft rust tones, standing alert as though it’s just heard a twig snap. The Bambi-style fawn was one of the most beloved decorative motifs of the 1950s and 60s, and it still pulls at the heartstrings today.

Turned from a warm honey-toned timber with a lovely mellow patina, this is the kind of object that earns its keep on a dresser, bedside or shelf. Lid off, it’s ready for rings, studs, cufflinks, hair ties or the little bits that always go missing. Lid on, it’s a quiet piece of nostalgic decor.

🐎 Drop #218 | Antique Double Faced Landers Frary & Clark Hanging Shop Scale | $285 | Patent 1912 | Complete with Enamel Pan

Step back in time with this genuine antique general store scale by Landers, Frary & Clark of New Britain, Connecticut. Patent dated October 15th 1912, this is well over a century of history hanging in one gorgeous piece. The dial still carries the maker’s original advertising in beautiful old English lettering, framed by a warm brass bezel and glass front, with the capacity marked at 30 pounds and the serial number 11828 stamped into the yoke.

Scales like this once hung in grocers and produce stores, weighing out fruit, dairy and dry goods for customers across the counter. Today they are one of the most sought after statement pieces for a farmhouse kitchen, country cafe or rustic fit out. This one is wonderfully complete, keeping its porcelain enamel weighing pan, both hanging rings, the balance arm and the lower hook, which is rare as most survivors have long lost their pan.

The dial has aged to a soft foxed patina that collectors love, the brass and nickel carry a genuine century of character, and the whole thing hangs with real presence. A true one of a kind original that will anchor a room and start conversations. Sold as a decorative piece.
