🌿 Tiny Ecosystems at Singapore Carnivorous Plants (SCP)! 🪲✨

It’s not just carnivorous plants at SCP! Our office is also home to a fascinating collection of colourful springtails and various types of isopods, living and thriving in our bioactive setups. 🍂🌱

From striking red springtails ❤️ to isopods displaying beautiful shades of orange, white, grey and more, these tiny creatures play an important role as nature’s clean-up crew — feeding on decaying organic matter and helping recycle nutrients within the ecosystem. ♻️🌿

Come by the SCP office and you might get the chance to see these incredible little creatures up close alongside our carnivorous plant collection! 🔍🪲

🌿 Nepenthes Viking × ampullaria ‘Black Miracle’ — Seed-Grown Lowland Beauty 🌿

A spectacular seed-grown Nepenthes Viking × ampullaria ‘Black Miracle’, combining the rounded, robust characteristics of N. mirabilis var. globosa ‘Viking’ with the exceptionally dark genetics of N. ampullaria ‘Black Miracle’. 🌱🖤

‘Black Miracle’ is especially famous for its dark brown to almost black pitchers, striped peristome and distinctive dark markings on its leaves. (Carnivorous Plant Newsletter⁠)

Being seed grown, every individual is genetically unique, making it especially exciting to observe how each plant develops. This specimen is already showing beautiful squat pitcher formation and strong colouration, and we’re excited to see how dark and dramatic its mature pitchers become here at Singapore Carnivorous Plants (SCP)! 🖤🌿

🌿 Nepenthes burbidgeae ‘Red’ — A Striking Bornean Highland Beauty 🌿

A spectacular red form of Nepenthes burbidgeae, a beautiful highland Nepenthes native to Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, Borneo. The species is especially admired for its elegant pitcher shape, beautifully patterned peristome and distinctive colouration, making it one of the most recognisable Bornean highland species. ❤️🌱

This specimen is already producing a gorgeous pitcher with rich red colouration and a beautifully defined peristome. As it matures, we’re especially excited to see its pitchers increase in size and develop even deeper colour and stronger contrast here at Singapore Carnivorous Plants (SCP)! 🌿❤️

On 24 August 2026, Singapore Carnivorous Plants (SCP) was delighted to collaborate with the National University of Singapore (NUS) through its Teach Singapore (Teach SG) initiative, conducting carnivorous plant workshops for primary school students. 🌱✨

Teach Singapore supports children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing meaningful learning opportunities, positive role models, and experiences that help build their confidence, curiosity and motivation to learn.

During our programme, students learnt about carnivorous plant adaptations and trapping mechanisms, participated in interactive quizzes, won exciting prizes, and created their own awesome carnivorous plant terrariums to bring home! 🌿🪴🏆

SCP tailors our programmes for all educational levels — from preschool and primary to secondary, tertiary and university — with a strong emphasis on accuracy, preparation and successful delivery.

📸 To respect the privacy of the school students who participated, photographs from today’s programme will not be published.

We’re also excited to be collaborating with the National University of Singapore (NUS) again this October, this time with NUS students and their faculty! 🌿🎓 More to share soon!

🌿 Drosera natalensis ‘Red’ — A Striking African Sundew 🌿

A beautiful red form of Drosera natalensis, this sundew is prized for its compact rosette growth and vibrant colouration. Under strong lighting, the foliage develops gorgeous deep red tones, making the glistening, dew-covered leaves even more striking. 🌱✨

Like other sundews, each leaf is covered in sticky, glistening tentacles that act as highly effective traps for small insects. We especially love the contrast between its intense red foliage and sparkling mucilage — a small but spectacular carnivorous plant here at Singapore Carnivorous Plants (SCP)!
