This one wall hides a bench, a key drawer and the whole family’s shoes. 👟

At this Toh Yi Drive HDB, we turned the entryway into:

→ a sit-down bench with hidden storage
→ a quick-grab drawer for keys and cards
→ a walnut-lined drop zone for daily essentials
→ a full-height, double-compartment shoe cabinet

Everything is built into arched shaker carpentry with brass pulls, so it looks more like a feature wall than storage.

No shoe pile. No missing keys. No wasted entrance.

Six practical details our interior designer insisted on 👇

1. Full-height backsplash with fewer grout lines
2. Oven positioned at a more comfortable height
3. Kitchen carpentry continued into the service yard
4. Shower ledge for toiletries
5. Concealed storage behind the bathroom mirror
6. Rounded counter edges in frequently used areas

These details may not be the first things you notice in photographs.

But they are often the things that determine whether a home still feels convenient years later.

A beautiful home catches your attention.

A well-planned home makes everyday life easier.

Eight jobs. One foyer wall. Zero wasted floor space. 👀

This entryway had a staircase taking up one side and the front door taking up the other.

Here’s what we fitted in anyway:

① Full-height shoe storage
② A built-in bench with a hidden drawer
③ A walnut drop zone with charging sockets
④ Full-depth storage under the stairs
⑤ A dog den with an arched entrance and porthole
⑥ Entrance tiles to contain dirt from outside
⑦ A concealed door that keeps the walkway clear
⑧ A rounded cabinet corner for safer movement

Shoes stored. Phones charged. Clutter hidden. Dog housed.

All within one compact foyer.

Every bay window in this condo became a bed, bench or workstation. 👀

At Kovan Melody, four awkward window ledges were turned into:

① A second bed in the kids’ room
② A padded bench for bags and everyday use
③ A full window seat with the best natural light
④ Space-saving desks built directly into the recesses

The result?

Three bedrooms. Three proper workstations. Zero floor space wasted.

Instead of hacking away the original structure, we designed around it.

Got a bay window collecting dust and random objects?

This 2006 condo feels bigger without moving a single wall. 👀

At Kovan Melody, three design decisions transformed the compact layout:

① A glass kitchen partition lets light travel deeper into the home
② Clearly defined zones prevent dining, cooking and studying from competing for space
③ Built-in storage and a full workstation make use of previously wasted corners

No hacking. No rebuilt walls. Just smarter space planning.

And this is not a staged show flat. It is a real family home with children, toys, fridge magnets and everyday life happening inside it.

The home did not get bigger.

The layout simply stopped wasting space.

We talked the homeowners out of building a kitchen island.

Here’s what we designed instead 👇

An island would have reduced the walking space and made the dining area feel cramped. So we extended the kitchen counter into a peninsula and connected the dining table directly to it.

The result?

✔ More preparation space
✔ Comfortable seating for six
✔ A clearer walkway
✔ Better use of the available floor area

Sometimes the best design decision is knowing what not to build.

The contractor said this was a waste of money. The internet is split. 👇

Half of you will call it “too much.” The other half are saving this right now for their own [4-room HDB] reno.

But here’s the truth about small-space design:

It’s not about spending more. It’s about spending smart.

1️⃣ The Arch: Swallows the storage so the wall reads as one unbroken line.
2️⃣ Book-Matched Stone: Zero grout lines, zero breaks in the veining.
3️⃣ Backlit Lighting: Soft ambient glow instead of harsh downlights.

Four decisions that turn a standard flat into a “Wait... whose place is this?”

Stop hacking down all your HDB walls. You’re doing it wrong. 🛑👀

Most people think making an HDB feel bigger requires massive demolition. This 4-room unit at 268A Toa Payoh East proves otherwise.

Here is how we faked a 5-room layout in 8 weeks:

✨ Bi-fold glass study: Maximum light transmission, zero noise bleed.

✨ Statement Dining Arch: Backlit marble wrapped in warm walnut panelling to anchor the main living space.

✨ Morning-to-Night Flex Room: Tucked a slim breakfast bar inside to double its utility.

On time. On budget. No wall left behind.

Most people underestimate what a 40-year-old flat is hiding.

Wiring designed before induction hobs existed. Pipework nobody has looked at since 1985. Floor screed left uneven by four decades of overlays.

This executive maisonette at Jurong West Street 41 had all three. Ten weeks later: 148 sqm of modern Scandinavian across two storeys, full scope.

We've written up the whole thing, room by room — including what it cost 👇

This isn’t just a pretty dining wall, it’s a $0 spatial trick hiding $10k worth of functionality. 👀

Slide 2 shows what happens when you separate your lighting circuits. Here’s what’s actually happening behind the scenes:

- The Sintered Stone Panel: Lit from behind the arch trim (not a harsh downlight pointed at your face).

- The Walnut Wall: Secret storage run and yes, one of those panels is a hidden door.

- The Ambience: The right-hand shelving operates on a separate switch. That’s why Slide 2 looks like a totally different apartment.

Lighting is the least expensive element in this room, yet it does 80% of the aesthetic heavy lifting.
