Located in the Joshua Tree desert, Canyon View is a family retreat designed by Brunner Architecture, inspired by the ownersโ deep connection to this landscape, which they have visited for decades. Conceived as a place for gathering, calm, and reflection, the home integrates naturally into its spectacular site, positioned at the edge of the park with sweeping views of the Mojave Desert to the north and direct access to a rocky hillside to the south.
The approximately 2,000-square-foot residence is designed to offer multiple ways to experience the surroundings through both public and private spaces that open toward the landscape. The architecture establishes a continuous dialogue between interior and exterior, where materiality plays a key role in strengthening this connection.
The natural wood used on the main faรงade extends into the living room, creating a visual link that reveals the warmth of the interior from the outside while allowing the interior to open outward to the landscape. This envelope incorporates Parklex Prodema natural wood panels, engineered to withstand the desertโs extreme weather conditions. The exposed fasteners are integrated as a compositional feature that reinforces the architectural character of the project.
The result is a home that combines durability, natural beauty, and comfort, offering a retreat where architecture and landscape merge to create a serene and timeless experience.
