“It’s pointless to design something that is prone to distortion and then try to remove the distortion. You might as well start right and then work from there.”
— John Curl

A core design philosophy from the legendary John Curl, whose work is at the heart of so many Parasound products.

Ever noticed the AC Polarity switch on the back of your J3+ or ZPhono and wondered what it does?

It's there to help with one of the most common annoyances in a phono system: hum.

Every power transformer couples a small amount of leakage current into its chassis. When two components' leakage currents are in phase, they add together, and a phono stage - with its very high gain - is where you're most likely to hear it. Flipping the switch reverses the phase of that current in the preamp so it can cancel against the rest of your system instead of adding to it.

It won't fix every hum (cable TV feeds, turntable grounding, and cable routing all need their own remedies) but if you're chasing a persistent hum, trying both positions takes ten seconds and can reduce it in many systems. 💡

A small detail, but the kind that matters in real-world setups.

Our client’s install featured with Parasound & Legacy Audio Studio HD Bookshelf speakers

Preferred Pair Spotlight: Antonie S. with a HALO P6 Preamplifier and Legacy Focus SE speakers

Antonie describes the combination as delivering massive bass control, an airy and detailed top end, and effortless dynamics across every genre. He also notes tight yet warm lower mid-bass, strong headroom, and the kind of neutrality and clarity that keeps the system sounding natural.

That kind of speaker pairing insight is always valuable—especially when control, balance, and ease are all part of the goal.
Thanks for sharing your system, Antonie. 🎶
