😷 When outdoor air quality deteriorates, keeping windows closed can help reduce the entry of haze particles indoors. But for architects and designers, that’s only ONE part of the indoor-environment conversation.

Even with the windows closed, sunlight can still bring solar heat and glare through the glazing. ☀️ And there’s another layer that’s easy to overlook: the materials we specify for indoor spaces — from residences to schools, hospitals and offices. Especially places for the vulnerable groups like children and others with health conditions.

🪟 Window coverings are part of the interior environment too. That’s why specifying fabrics with verified low-emission or low-VOC properties is an important consideration when designing healthier indoor spaces.

So when we talk about window design, we’re not just talking about the view. We’re thinking about: Air quality, window shading materials, daylight, glare, heat.

Occupant comfort matters when planning a functional interior space. But designing for long-term occupant wellbeing means considering what people experience and are exposed to every day.

The ideal window shading strategy isn’t simply about dressing a window, or deciding between curtains or roller blinds. It’s about managing managing the relationship between the outside and the indoor environment to create a more comfortable, considered space.

When standard roller blinds aren’t the answer.

🏢 This commercial office has double-volume-height windows, bringing plenty of natural light into the space, adding visual grandeur with its expansive atmosphere. However, it also welcomes significant heat and glare through the upper section of the glazing, making it uncomfortable for employees at their workstations.

At 8 metre high, this also means more sound reverberations 🗣️

Instead of having typical roller blinds fixed directly onto the windows, the client wanted a shading solution that could improve the acoustics as well.

Working closely with the Designer, we recommended automated skylight honeycomb shades, mounted onto a custom metal structure designed specifically for this unique space. This feature plays a impactful role in reducing echo.

To result? The air pockets within the honeycomb cells help reduce sound reverberation within the space, creating less echo and clearer conversations. Improved acoustics makes an obvious difference! 🌟

Best of all, our client LOVED it! This new office transformed into a more comfortable, usable workspace while keeping the design intent of the office.

For unconventional office spaces, the right window shading solution isn’t simply about covering the glass. It’s about considering glare control, heat reduction, acoustics, automation and design together.

About last Friday: Nothing brings a team together quite like durian season. 😋

After wrapping up the work week, we traded roller blinds and curtain fabrics for the King of Fruits. 👑

Great conversations, plenty of laughter, and a few “Is Red Prawn, Black Thorn or Mao Shan Wang better?” debates later... we’d call it a Friday well spent!

At The Shades Lab, we believe great work is built on great teamwork. And sometimes, that means taking time to unwind and enjoy the little moments together✌️

💪🏼 Here’s to working hard, celebrating the wins, and creating more memories along the way!

Can sheer curtains make a space quieter? 🤫

The answer is yes - when they’re engineered for acoustics.

Modern interiors are filled with hard surfaces like glass, concrete and stone. While they create a clean, contemporary aesthetic, they also reflect sound, causing echoes and making conversations feel louder than they need to be.

Why designers prefer Vescom Lucy Acoustic Sheers:
✨ Reduce echo and improve acoustic comfort
✨ Filter natural light while maintaining visual connection
✨ Add privacy without making spaces feel enclosed
✨ Soft, homely texture with a refined matte finish
✨ 12 timeless neutral shades inspired by wood, stone and glass
✨ Ideal for offices, meeting rooms, hospitality spaces and contemporary homes

Great design isn’t just about how a space looks - it’s also about how it feels.

If you’re planning a luxury home renovation, designing an office or looking for acoustic solutions for a commercial project, acoustic sheers offer a simple way to elevate both aesthetics and everyday comfort.
