A lower price tag can be tempting—but with flooring and tile, it’s worth asking why it costs less.

In some cases, lower prices can reflect lower-grade materials, including seconds or factory rejects, or products with greater variation in sizing, color, and finish. Those differences might seem small on a sample, but they can become much more noticeable once an entire room is installed.

A few things worth looking for when you compare:

Consistency: Are the sizing, color, and finish within the expected tolerances for the material?
Construction + finish: What is the product actually made of, and is the surface designed to stand up to how you’ll use the space?
Warranty: What does the manufacturer stand behind—and for how long?

Quality matters beyond day one. Better materials can contribute to a smoother installation, fewer repairs or replacements, and a finished space that continues to look beautiful years down the road.
