New Mood Design

As New Mood Design begins a primary bathroom renovation, I’m reminded of how much I love transforming small spaces.

Smaller bathrooms can be surprisingly complex to design whether for a new build or a remodel. Every element has to earn its place—functioning beautifully while allowing the room to feel open, balanced, and true to the client’s aesthetic.

Bathrooms are some of my favorite rooms to reimagine because they’re so personal. They’re spaces for privacy, comfort and restoration, and I love finding ways to make even a limited footprint feel considered and uniquely suited to the person who lives there.

Small-space bathroom design is definitely one of my sweet spots!

Farm fresh eggs have distinctly beautiful colors! They sure look fabulous in this Russel Wright “Casual” bowl. So grateful for this thoughtful gift from a friend’s farm. 🤍💛💚

I enjoy time spent cooking and baking, and I love experimenting with new recipes. As a designer, I especially appreciate it when beautiful form and perfect function blend seamlessly together, which is why I’m pretty excited to add the Emile Henry tagine in their limited edition ‘Vert’ color to my collection of this hand-crafted brand’s high-fired, natural ceramic ovenware and bakeware. With my weekly organic veggie haul from Bereishis Farms, I’m looking forward to crafting nourishing, aromatic meals over the holidays!

I’m thrilled to share New Mood Design's updated website! ✨ After taking a pause last year to focus on our rebrand — celebrating 16 incredible years in business — I’m excited to reveal a new perspective on our client projects and services. A heartfelt thank-you to the talented team at Lawson House for guiding me through every step of the in-depth rebranding process. I absolutely love our new logo! Their thoughtful, creative approach brought clarity and care to both our visual identity and messaging, and the results feel truly reflective of who we are.

Did you know Donna’s creative journey has taken her from Canada to Australia before landing right here in Atlanta?

She recently chatted with VoyageATL about her adventures in art, museums, academia, and design—and how all those experiences shaped New Mood Design.

Check it out and get to know Donna’s story a little better!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Grace McAlear. Hi Donna Grace, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?I’m a lifelong creative from Montreal who has lived in Canada, Australia, and the U.S. My passion for art began at ag...

I hardly ever shop. But today I stopped by a local consignment store and was surprised to see a vintage candle holder by Iittala, a Finnish design company renowned for its artisanal glass making since 1881. I own a few of their tableware pieces designed by Alvar Aalto, so this was a true find.

This 1970s “Arkipelago” series cast glass candle holder is designed by Timo Sarpaneva. The glass has the appearance of melting ice with bubbles, cracks and lines.

Now I’m going to have to search for a second one to make a set!

Design is a journey, not a quick HGTV reveal! ✨

At New Mood Design, we know that every design process unfolds step by step— from the designer’s concept to client approval, followed by expert team ex*****on. It’s a process that requires time, patience, and collaboration from everyone involved.

Our latest project? An Atlanta condo redo for our client Michelle, who just downsized but loves the mid-century modern vibe she had in her former house.

Donna has reimagined this 1960s condo with a fresh color palette, floor stain, lighting, plumbing, door hardware and window shades to create a cohesive and refreshed home. 🏡

🌿 The main living spaces are now bright and airy, while the bedrooms are transformed into calming retreats, wrapped in serene green-blue tones, Michelle's favorite palette. The red oak wood floors, sanded and stained with a custom neutral finish, add elegance and warmth to the entire space.

We'll share more as this transformation unfolds. Stay tuned!💫

Exciting news! The New Mood Design team’s primary bathroom concept was a total hit—100% approved at yesterday’s presentation! 🎉 Swipe to see the future transformation! The new design is expertly rendered by Leo and there are pics of the current bathroom that’s about to get a major makeover.

Our Kennesaw client dreamed of an open, airy space with a larger shower, a cozy one-person soaker tub, and smart, efficient storage. We wanted to create a warm, inviting atmosphere that seamlessly blends the outdoors with the indoors—green being their absolute favorite color! 🌿

Courtney and I pulled out all the stops with new exterior windows, jaw-dropping artistic wall tiles, rich wood vanity cabinets, textured ceramic pendants, and gorgeous satin bronze fixtures. And the storage? Let’s just say hidden gems are everywhere—from wall-recessed medicine cabinets to floating vanity drawers with interior accessories.

This design truly captures our client’s vision and we’re so happy they love it! ✨

New Mood Design's collaboration with Valdosta State University’s Department of Art & Design has brought us our fantastic summer intern, Bethany Muss. This partnership underscores our dedication to mentoring aspiring designers and providing Bethany with invaluable real-world experience, helping her earn credits toward her interior design degree.

Over the past month, Bethany has become my right-hand assistant, diving into the “life of a project” as we source custom furnishings + soft goods for various designs. Today was particularly exciting as we visited my favorite trade-only workroom, Bjork Studio, to put the finishing touches on a custom furniture piece concept for quote. We even got a behind-the-scenes tour—an experience that brings the academic curriculum to life!

Check out the photos of the Bjork Studio facility with a few of my custom favorites they crafted for New Mood Design back in 2018. It’s a thrill to be working with them again and sharing this journey with Bethany!
