Fall doesn't always have to shout.

I love the bright oranges and traditional colors of the season, but sometimes I want fall to settle in a little more quietly. Deep greens, warm earthy tones and just enough autumn color to make the season known.

Somewhere along the way, Wicked Pretty Wreaths passed 900 Etsy sales. And I almost missed it.

But when I stopped to think about it, that's more than 900 times someone chose something I made for their home, sent one as a gift, or trusted me to make something especially for them.

I've also received some especially lovely reviews lately, and they seemed like the perfect way to mark the moment.

Thank you for shopping small, coming back, leaving kind words, and giving the things I make a place in your homes. ❤️

Sometimes the combinations that make me hesitate are the ones I end up liking best.

There are a lot of patterns happening in this wreath — plaid, stripes, dots and florals — and I remember wondering if I was pushing it a little too far. But the colors kept talking to each other, so I trusted it.

Once it all came together, it didn't feel busy. It just felt like fall.

Christmas has been happening in my workshop for quite a while now.
In my house? Not so much.

I know plenty of people who start decorating in October or early November. Me? I like fall. I like Thanksgiving. My Christmas decorations stay put away until after the turkey has had its day.

But that's the nice thing about decorating your own home is that you get to decide when Christmas begins.

And if you're ready before I am, the Christmas collection is already waiting for you.

I believe the parts you don't see still matter.

The back of a wreath may spend its life facing a door or wall, but that doesn't mean I stop caring once the pretty side is finished.

I want the mechanics secure, the back thoughtfully finished, and everything doing the job it's supposed to do.

Will anyone admire this side once it's hanging? Probably not. But I'll know it's there. And that matters to me.

Apparently it's Taco Tuesday (Happy National Taco Day!)

Fortunately, David makes very good tacos, which means I can keep doing this right up until I hear, “Dinner's ready.”

I think we have an excellent division of labor. He makes dinner. I make things pretty.
