Blow molds are hollow, illuminated hard-plastic figures that defined mid-to-late 20th-century American holiday and lawn decor. Makers like Union Products, Empire, and General Foam took industrial bottle-molding tech, inflated hot plastic inside giant metal casts, and have lit up front lawns across America for decades. These mini blow molds were made by Empire in the 1990's. Both are available in my Etsy shop. Did you know the history behind glass pinecone ornaments? 🌲

Before the round glass spheres we see everywhere today became the standard, early glass ornaments in 19th-century Germany were shaped to mimic nature. The pinecone was actually one of the very first designs produced by the famous glassblowers in Lauscha, Germany.

Because evergreen trees maintain their color through the harshest winters, the pinecone served as a traditional symbol of everlasting life, resilience, and the eventual return of spring. Families hung mercury glass pinecones on their branches to represent hope and the enduring strength of nature.

Do you have any classic glass pinecones in your ornament collection? I have several along with blown glass squirrels and birds.
