From immersive installations to emerging design innovations, Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026 transformed Milan into a showcase of what’s next in global design.

ROAM joined industry leaders for a week centered on craftsmanship, materiality, and the evolving future of hospitality interiors. Representing ROAM were Natalie Smith Musser, Design Director & Principal, alongside Elena Oatman and Jessica McQueen, Senior Designers & Associates.

Across exhibitions and installations, key themes emerged, including sculptural forms, fluid curves, living metal finishes, lacquered surfaces, and modular design solutions that continue to blur the line between residential and hospitality environments.

The integration of AI within product development and visualization also stood out as an evolving influence across the industry, alongside a growing focus on sustainability and material innovation.

Milan itself became an immersive expression of creativity, craftsmanship, and design culture.

ROAM celebrates the global creative exchange that continues to shape the future of hospitality.

The future of hospitality design is being shaped by wellness.

As travelers place greater value on restoration, wellness spaces — from spas to private guest bathrooms — are becoming some of the most influential environments within a hotel. They are no longer viewed as amenities, but as defining design experiences that shape how a property is felt and remembered.

Designing for wellness requires a quieter level of luxury. Materiality becomes essential. Natural stone, softened textures, diffused lighting, acoustic control, and spatial balance work together to create environments that immediately slow the pace and calm the senses.

At ROAM, we see wellness design as an extension of the overall architectural narrative. Every space contributes to the emotional experience of a property — creating environments that feel restorative, elevated, and timeless.

Because today, luxury is no longer just visual, it’s how a space makes you feel.

At Lopesan Hotel Group, the Gondola restaurant, designed by ROAM, draws from the familiar language of traditional Italian dining, reframed through a more contemporary, design-forward lens.

A bold black-and-white palette sets the foundation—graphic and cinematic, with a subtle nod to Fellini films. Natural woods and woven seagrass pendants soften the composition, grounding the experience in warmth and texture.

At the heart of the restaurant, artisanal brick ovens clad in metallic bronze tile become both focal point and function, celebrating craft, materiality, and the ritual of making.

The result is a layered environment where nostalgia and modernity meet, shaping a dining experience that feels both evocative and distinctly of the present.

Private sanctuaries, shaped by heritage.

ROAM was approached to develop a conceptual space in Saudi Arabia, drawing inspiration from the layered volumes and flowing veils of Najdi architecture.

The design explores a balance between tradition and contemporary expression—where softly sculpted forms, warm materials, and filtered light create a quiet sense of enclosure. Each element is composed with harmony, allowing texture and materiality to guide the atmosphere.

Framed by the surrounding landscape, the rooms are envisioned as places of reflection, where ancient elegance and modern luxury exist in seamless dialogue.

ROAM’s design for the spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Portland is rooted in form, materiality, and sensory experience, an approach shaped by Portland’s identity as the City of Roses.

A sculptural entry, inspired by the unfolding petals of a rose, sets the spatial tone from the outset. At reception, suspended droplets of light evoke morning dew, creating a subtle interplay of softness and illumination.

The design draws on the rose’s historic connection to wellness through curved lines and sculptural forms that guide movement throughout.

The space unfolds like the rose itself—layered, immersive, and shaped through a continuous expression of form, reflecting the essence of the City of Roses.

At ROAM, every project begins with a narrative, one shaped by context, culture, and a deep understanding of place.

As Design Director and Vice President Gareth Payne shares, this foundation guides how each space is developed, resulting in environments that feel authentic and closely connected to their setting.

It’s a process rooted not just in design, but in meaning, where every detail contributes to a larger story.

At Hotel El Ganzo, you are not only invited in, you are built into the experience.

ROAM conceived the design as a creative refuge and a departure from the expected, shaping a space where simple, intentional aesthetics set the foundation for expression.

Custom furniture and original décor elements establish a distinct visual language, while references to artist studios and Hemingway’s Finca inform a layered, lived-in atmosphere.

The result is something living. Always changing. Always original.

Set along the Albanian coastline, our concept explores a resort shaped by landscape, memory, and sensory experience.

ROAM developed a vision where interiors feel connected to the history of Albania: open to sea views, layered with woven materials, and softened by texture and light. Guestrooms and baths are designed as quiet, immersive retreats, balancing crafted detail with a sense of ease. A concept rooted in atmosphere where architecture and environment exist as one.

Es Fum at The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort reflects ROAM’s vision of seating as the first gesture in the dining experience.

Inspired by the traditional Spanish rural finca, the design reimagines the restaurant as a contemporary countryside estate, where guests are immersed in both the natural world and a refined culinary setting.

Contemporary furniture sits against a backdrop of local stone and timber, while a blush-toned palette draws from the hues of Mallorca’s architecture. Throughout the space, curated artwork from the hotel’s collection, sculptural elements, and layered textures bring depth and personality.

The result is a composed, quietly luxurious environment, one that sets the tone for an experience that unfolds well beyond the table.
