Continuing the conversation from last week…

Finding common ground is great but when it diminishes people’s uniqueness then it becomes a problem. We are all unique. Just because you meet a Deaf person who lip reads doesn’t mean everyone does. Just because you meet a Deaf person who signs three different sign languages doesn’t mean everyone does. Get to know the person in front of you without putting expectations on them.

This is probably one of the worst comments I get as a Deaf person.

You’re Deaf?? Cool! My dog is Deaf too!

WHY????!! I’m not a dog.

This comment does nothing but degrade me. I’m now just like your pet dog instead of a human being with feelings.

Don’t say this. Just don’t.

Deaf tax is a real thing. Not just money but energy. I love that some organizations want to hire an interpreter that’s a big deal however when they expect us to do the work to get one for ourselves, it becomes the Deaf tax we have to “pay” to enjoy the same things hearing people do without a second thought.

I love teaching people how to bake from scratch! We have two more virtual ASL baking classes left of 2026! Our next one is on October 17th and we are making peach cobbler 🤤
