Eagle City Council has voted to ban all feather flags- its hard enough getting people to the west or east end of the city what are your thoughts? Here is the letter we sent them-
Dear Members of the Eagle City Council,
I’m writing on behalf of Hope Blooms Flowers & Things to ask you to reconsider the ban on feather flags for small businesses.
For many local businesses, feather flags are an affordable and effective way to let people know we’re open and help them find us.
They catch the attention of passersby, make storefronts easier to spot, and can encourage customers to stop in—
especially when a business is less visible from the road. Unlike larger advertising campaigns, flags are a relatively low-cost option that small businesses can manage themselves.
In this challenging economic climate, local businesses need every reasonable opportunity to reach customers and bring people through the door. A restriction that may seem small can have a real impact on businesses that depend on local visibility and walk-in traffic. When small businesses can attract customers and stay strong, they help support local jobs, services, and the character of Eagle.
We understand the City has an interest in keeping Eagle attractive, safe, and orderly. We would welcome reasonable guidelines—such as limits on the number, size, placement, or hours of display—instead of a complete ban. Clear standards could address the City’s concerns while still allowing small businesses to use a practical and affordable form of advertising.
We respectfully ask the Council to reconsider the ban and work with local businesses on a balanced solution. Thank you for your time and for considering the impact this decision has on small businesses like Hope Blooms Flowers & Things.
Sincerely,
Dorothy Miller
