Happy Wednesday Walks!

Field is starting to be cleaned up and prepped for spring!

A hill covered in blooms.
One cold night they’re covered in frozen crystals.
The sun comes up and melts the frost and this is what remains.

I told you it wasn’t pretty.

I’ll begin the digging process this week. Hopefully.

Friday Field Focus… the farmer!

No more flowers blooming in the field. This farmer is exhausted. Proud. Thankful. Happy. Sad. All of the emotions.

This season felt like a dream. Last year was the first year. And will always be special. But felt more like survival. This year, I feel like I took so many lessons from each flower.

I’m far from done tweaking and making improvements, but I’m taking the time to be proud of how far this dream has come in such a short time (something my sisters remind me of often!).

So instead of showing you the latest bloom in the field. I’m showing you the farmer that took time to soak it all in today. The farmer that continues to bloom and make this farm her dream farm.

Thank you for your support this season. Truly. Wishing you all had time to bask in this glorious fall sunshine today.

No market tomorrow. Saturday mornings with my family begin!

Frostmas. The first killing frost of the season. I extended it with frost cloth last week.

Fall on a flower farm is an emotional rollercoaster. And this is just one small piece of it.

But I can’t work against Mother Nature forever. So today I accepted that we are co-workers (more like I’m the employee) and the fresh cut flower season is over.

These flowers look stunning covered in frosted crystals. Seriously jaw dropping. Then the sun comes up, warms the flowers and frost, and they turn to brown mush. (Should I share a video of the field now?!)

I’ve been sad. Relieved. Happy. Bummed. All of it. Today has been a lot. But overall proud of the season. More reflections to come. But first I’m gonna let this sink in.

Happy Wednesday Walks! And Official Frostmas!

(Yes I almost run into a tree branch at the beginning and yes that’s a helmet hanging from the branches)

Hey guys! I’m loving having the on farm stand open and knowing these flowers are more accessible for each of you. Every once in a while I get to chat with you about why you need flowers, how you found us, and often so much more. This fills my cup more than most of you realize.

The other day, these beautifully made mittens and hat were left for me in the stand with the sweetest note. However, there was no name. I have no idea who to thank for such a thoughtful and beautiful gift and I’m hoping someone that follows me left them or recognizes the hard work.

Thank you in advance!

Friday Field Focus… strawflower!

I may have already posted this one, but I panicked and wanted to make sure it wasn’t left out!

Strawflower is a hidden gem in every bouquet. It comes in so many colors, has these fun crunchy leaves, pairs great with everyone, but my favorite feature… it dries beautifully! It’ll keep its amazing color long after the rest of the bouquet has been composted.

I cut a bunch to dry for winter projects, but don’t worry they will also be in the bouquets for Fairport Farmers Market tomorrow!

Happy Wednesday Walks! Field is still full color as we dodged frost last week. Not sure how much longer it’ll look like this!

Confused by these lilac bushes! We didn’t get many blooms from them this spring, but imagine my surprise when we had buds on the bushes in September and now (small) blooms.

Farming in Rochester, NY (home of the Rochester Lilac Festival ) you would think I’d have an answer to this, but I’m stumped! I’m assuming it’s weather confusion or a stressed plant?

Taking suggestions for how to care for them to set them up for success in the spring!

A heads up that I won’t be Fairport Farmers Market tomorrow! But there will still be locally grown flowers! Go support Budbreak Flower Company I Paige Vinson and Emily Redding and enjoy the beauty from their fields!
