And who says appliances can’t be fun?? Thank you to Wolf Sub-Zero for a fabulous experience at their world headquarters in Wisconsin. Our group got to tour the factory, learn about new products, ask design questions, watch cooking demonstrations by world-class chefs, cook on the appliances ourselves, enjoy a local cheese tasting, visit their farm and eat, eat, eat. Sub-Zero is an amazing family owned company and it was a true privilege to be included on this trip.

Every detail matters in design. This kitchen / living room included details like a custom metal hood, custom metal suspended shelves, and custom cabinets which included a concealed coffee station with integrated lighting. All design elements work together to create a functional and beautiful kitchen. Blackbird helped with all aspects of this new build including the furniture selection. This project (and kitchen) is truly one of my all-time favorites. It was a true joy to work with such amazing clients and an amazing team. Cabinets are by Nickels Custom Cabinets.

Small details can make big impacts in a project. A cool light fixture, solid bronze hardware, a glaze and distressing on cabinetry, slab backsplash, bringing in wood accents like floating shelves a rustic mantle and beam wraps - all of these details add layers to make the space interesting, warm and inviting.

A follow up to last week's post - this is the primary bathroom in the same Genesee project as the previous kitchen. The freestanding tub was removed to create a large shower with two heads and a new, large window. The closet was reconfigured to provide his and her spaces. Nickels Custom Cabinets were selected in beautiful natural black walnut. I truly love how this bathroom came together! The client's good taste and modern style was a dream to design for.

This Genesee kitchen was closed off from the main room, had low ceilings, poor function and oak cabinets. We opened up the space to the dining room and added a vaulted ceiling and new beams. We expanded the kitchen towards the window wall. Windows were enlarged to capture more of the view. The new bar space stole space from above the split-level coat closet below. Nickels Cabinets were used for this project. The walnut interiors on the white cabinets was the perfect detail to bring everything together.

Nickels Cabinets and Cambria countertops were used to create this simple, modern kitchen. Features like retractable door cabinets, panel ready appliances and waterfall ends contributed to the clean look. Reconfiguring the original awkward layout yielded better function and made the kitchen great for entertaining. The homeowners did not want to change the extensive wood trim throughout the home, so we worked within that color family to make it all look cohesive. Newly refinished floors brightened up the space.

This lovely bathroom started as a floral wallpaper palace but was transformed into a warm, sophisticated mountain retreat. We first eliminated all unnecessary soffits simplifying the room's geometry. We then clad the fireplace with stone, eliminated the hearth, added adjacent bookcases and created a larger vanity with two sinks. A zero-entry transition into the new steam shower allows easier access. The shower was also enlarged to allow for two shower heads and a bench. The giant tub platform was removed and was replaced with a freestanding tub. Brushed gold fixtures wonderfully add shine and warmth to the palette.

Thank you Nickels Cabinets for hosting an exciting and inspirational launch event at the beautiful Affinity Kitchens showroom in Scottsdale, AZ. They also treated us to a private tour of the Wolf-Subzero flagship showroom. The creativity exhibited in the new materials and displays was amazing. Look out for real stone veneer doors, leather doors, metal inlays, modern inset styles and many new wonderful colors. Nickels is truly custom cabinetry at its best and I am proud to be a dealer. Let's get creative!!!
