Meet Alicia, our Vendor of the Month for June!
Alicia is the creative heart behind Southern Lady Gifts. From hand-made centerpieces that went viral to beautiful handmade items now available at our shop, she brings joy and creativity to everything she makes.
Here’s her story in her own words:
Q: What's the story behind your business or craft? How did you get started?
A: My Mawmaw enrolled me in craft classes every summer growing up, and I’ve been making things for family and friends ever since. My mother and I started Southern Lady Gifts in 2007. In 2013, while planning my oldest son’s first birthday, I hand-sewed some centerpieces that went viral after I posted them online. That led me to open an Etsy shop, and last year I took a leap of faith to start selling locally at Daisy & Company Vintage Market. So here I am!
Q: What is your favorite piece or product you've ever made or sold at Daisy & Co.?
A: Custom orders! I love to make new things, especially anything custom and unique. My favorite things to make are the name banners for children’s rooms.
Q: What is one thing you love about being a part of Daisy & Company Vintage Market?
A: I am surrounded by amazing and talented ladies! We all have our different niches and everyone is so supportive of each other.
And of course I absolutely love our little small town of Folsom!
Q: In only three words, describe your work or style.
A: Handmade With Love
Q: What is a fun fact about you that most people don't know?
A: I am sure it’s becoming more well known now, but I am the Director of Religious Education at
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Folsom. I get so much joy from working with children and watching them grow.
And…I love flowers.
Q: How do you make your products unique or special compared to others?
A: I draw and customize all my designs, cut them out and sew each one by hand. Most of the felt I use is a special Merino Wool felt that is buttery soft and is a higher quality than most acrylic craft felts. I love using special stitching to really give my pieces a unique look. Each and every piece I make is sewn by hand.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of seeing your products in our shop?
A: It’s fun to see a dream come to life. I recently made 1 year of being on the Daisy & Company team and I was looking back at pictures from my first month here and comparing it to now and I’ve really grown in my creativity! It’s really been a great creative outlet for me. It’s also rewarding showing my two boys what you can accomplish when you work hard.
Q: What is a favorite memory or customer interaction you've at a DVM?
A: That’s hard! I’ve met so many people since joining Daisy’s. Customers from all over coming to visit our little town. We had a gentleman from California who bought a bunch of my cards. He said, “you can’t find handmade things like this anymore!” I love that we have local handmade things in our shop!
Q: What is something you'd love our customers to know about the heart and soul behind your work?
A: Everything I make is made with love. Especially my religious items. I always pray for the person who will receive them as gifts as I’m making them.
Q: What is next for you? Any new products or ideas you're excited to bring to our shop?
A: Yes! My brain never stops coming up with new ideas. I have way more ideas than I do time, but I’m working on getting some new felt pieces done soon and maybe back to some painting on canvas. I’d also love to start offering more Catholic inspired gift items. Y’all let me know what y’all want me to make!
