RARE Block Island historical map available for purchase:

Esta’s Map of Block Island, Rhode Island, circa 1957 (Artist, Overly)
An impeccably preserved pictorial map of Block Island, Town of New Shoreham, Rhode Island, originally drawn by artist Charles H. Overly, and sold through Esta’s Gift Shop.
It was printed on a warm-toned, cold-press textured paper, with sepia ink.
The map, originally commissioned by Esta Gray, was first printed in 1957, and includes various historical details and landmarks, such as:
• A brief history of how Block Island was named for the Dutch navigator and explorer, Adrian (Adriaen) Block.
• Illustrations of the Island’s two lighthouses, the North Lighthouse (built 1867) and the Southeast Lighthouse (built 1874), plus the locations of previous beacons at the North Point.
• Annotations for specific geographic locations like Great Salt Pond, Chagum (aka Sachem) Pond, Grace's Point, Rodman's Hollow, and many more.
• Vignettes illustrating landmarks and scenes such as Rebecca at the Well, Settler’s Rock and The Historical Society.
This was a popular souvenir and decorative item for those interested in the Island’s history.
Professionally framed in a complementary warm modern take on a driftwood frame with water-gilded silver lip.

I pride myself on careful and thoughtfully designed framing, always going the extra step.

To make that process work smoothly, I utilize Virtual Framer- a software program that allows me to mock up a project so you’ll see what the work will look like before we do the framing. It’s a HUGE step ahead of traditional corner-sample design. It allows me to use my vast knowledge of available frames to choose (yes, I still do the choosing and designing, with your input- NO AI HERE!!!) the perfect frame for your work. Then, with this tech help, I mock up the finished product with VF and send it to your text/email for approval. (Illustration below)

These three pieces came to us from Bermuda. Purchased from an artist on the street, these little gems inspired a hand drawn accent pencil line (which will be softened to be less pronounced). And what could be more fitting than this “Shell Pink” Italian frame?

A little streaming in the studio today makes for a solid New England vibe.

Legend has it this scene captured one of the final races off the New England coast before the Hurricane of 1938 rolled in.

The lead yacht with sails glowing against the darkening sky supposedly belonged to a prominent summer family who disappeared from the racing circuit shortly after.

True story?
Probably not.

But great art always leaves room for imagination.
