NOT on the way to Cape May - prior to the 1962 Highway Act (Four and more-lane interstates receiving authority and money to plow through public land; private property - imminent domain; over water; under water; through mountains, to lay these roads).
Imagine: could the need, desire, necessity to “go faster”, “get there quicker”, “accomplish more”, by using “super highways”, promoting break-neck potential, to “get there, get more - and get it quicker”, the Updates and Upgrades are constantly Updated and Upgraded. There is nothing better than MORE (isn’t that an addict’s quest)?!?
Anyway…can the concept of our super highways, beginning in 1961, parallel the internet, virtual - and, frighteningly current morph to AI?!?
While one is lunging forward at breakneck speed - in a vehicle, or on some device - one might mistakenly go right by the “WARNING” signs. Or…one might ignore flags of caution: Beware, Hazardous; Slow Down; STOP!!
One of the currently, and widely touted and used methods of treatment, is CBT - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This, as well as a few other acronym (see?!? People are in too much of a rush to translate the initials into words that could explain, so that the person/patient/motorist/computer or Smart whatever, will gain access to the possibility that Slowing Down; Being/Staying in the Moment, are ultimately safer alternatives to Too Much Information, Real Quick, Right Now, then…NOW what/where/when?!?
SO…the photo of Dad, Bill (9!, Me (7), Kevin (5), was taken by Mom, at a Holiday Inn in Roanoke, VA. We were halfway to our family reunion in Birmingham: thanks to two-lane roads, an overnight at a Holiday Inn was always part of the itinerary. While giddy about getting to Birmingham to see our best cousins ever, my brothers and I imagined our overnight to be like being comped at a five star resort - mostly because of the pool, plus we could jump in the beds, and fill ice buckets - because we were there, we were grateful and smiling, it was a moment in time when all was well (very CBT-ish).
Leave it to a silly, very colorful yet serene picture, to help form the comparison/contrast with, and to the growth of “Super Highways”, and their potential to take us to places we maybe shouldn’t be.
