Purdy is finished!
Here are the last two stages.

Tonight, I feel like a blending master, without sweating and crying over the effort. This Grisaille method really is awesome.
I have truly enjoyed taking my time working on this painting. Each stroke came with more depth than the last one, with more blending or even with the option to erase my mistakes.

I'll be varnishing this painting and hanging it up with great pride 💗☺️😁👏🏽🎉😍

What to paint next? 🤯

Purdy Stage 7
Last night I sat down to work on the foreground. The leaves were looking so inanimate and flat. Then I added a layer of burnt sienna and grey and viola! The leaves shifted and became more of a faded memory.
Beautiful! I am so impressed by this Grisaille method. Not only because the grey values are helping me to blend colors on the main subject, but they are helping me blend everything else in the painting.
I've watched David's videos again and I believe I need to add more glazing to my background and more highlights to my subject. And into the colors of the highlights will go a little bit of the background colors. I tell you, there are so many thin layers of color going on. But as soon as I see the inherent blending taking place, I know when to stop and let it dry so I can come back and work on something else.
This canvas is taking me so long but I think it's worth it. My journey continues!!

Purdy Stage 6

Wow, I was nervous for no reason at all. I've been watching and rewatching David's videos trying to prepare myself mentally for painting in thin color washes. I was so nervous about it. I sincerely thought I would mess it up.

But having the right supplies and time, I sat down tonight to give it a go. Certainly there is something to the Grisaille method that has allowed me to blend as I have tonight.

I used to think direct color was the only way to paint. Now I am convinced that there are other ways for me to explore.

I'm not done with Purdy yet. There are several more layers to add but for tonight, these will have to dry.

Purdy Stage 5
I can honestly say that I am starting to wonder if I'll ever paint any other colors than the grey scale on Purdy. He's looking so good, what's the point of using other colors?
Only thing keeping me on this track is my curiosity of how the other colors will react over all this grey.
Ready or not, colors are next! 🤓

Purdy Stage 4
Looks as if this painting is taking on Autumn vibes with these yellows and browns. I love how much warmer the painting has become.
I'll add colors to Purdy next 💪🏽💗🤓

Purdy Stage 3
Tonight I fell into painting more details. I love Purdy's face. He's definitely starting to look like he's strutting for his ladies. 🤭😁❤️
I'll start adding a color to the glaze layers to warm up the grey tones and to help build direction of light.
One step at a time. I sure am glad I'm using acrylic paint because using oils would stretch out the amount of drying time between the layers significantly.

Purdy Stage 2

I wonder how many stages it'll take me to finish this painting.

I'm applying the Grisaille method, to the best of my understanding of the method, and I think I'm starting to understand why someone may use this method. I think my curiosity will be satisfied once I start applying color layers on top of all these gray layers.

I'll add another layer or two of the gray scale and glazing medium and then turn on the colors 🤓🤭❤️

Canvas Paper Roses
I had the best time this evening just playing around on the canvas paper. I'm in love with the filbert brush these days, as I am sure you will recognize by the brush strokes.
I enjoy working through all the steps of painting a rose that David has shared in his videos. If I forget something this time, I might just remember it next time, but for the most part I think my memory was good tonight 😁🤭
