With an approach that is fun, bold, and romantic, the Laura U Design Collective is known for exceptional design that truly celebrates home. Specializing in residential interior design, the firm explores creative environments that integrate beauty and function, inspired by its clients’ passions and joys. Laura Umansky founded the Laura U Design Collective in 2006 when she set out to design for clients who, like herself, were in search of “warm luxury” within a functional family home. Laura and the design team draw from their design and architectural backgrounds to create gorgeous homes where families build lasting memories. Headquartered in Houston and Aspen, Laura U Design Collective has grown into a multi-disciplinary firm with a focus on projects in Texas, the Rocky Mountains, and California. LUDC has been recognized with Press and Awards: International Design and Architecture Award and the prestigious National Gold List by Luxe magazine. In 2020, Laura was awarded the 31st Annual ARTS Award for Best Interior Designer. The firm – which holds more than 20 awards from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) – has had its designs featured in Elle Decor, Interiors magazine, House Beautiful, and Laura’s home was featured in 2019’s On Style: Inspiration and Advice from the Next Generation of Interior Design, published by Rizzoli.

Speaking of colder weather 🍁🍂

We recently headed back to our South Aspen project to install furniture and add final touches.

From the plush boucle swivel chairs anchoring the fireplace to the chunky wood console grounding the sofa, every piece was chosen to feel as warm and layered as that mountain view outside.

As we finalize this home, we're already looking ahead to photography, so stay tuned for the full reveal soon.

Things are starting to cool down. ❄️

And we’re not mad about it when the view looks like this.

This Aspen great room was opened up with a new steel moment frame and expansive windows designed to capture the surrounding Continental Divide views.

Laura has a few updates planned for her home, so consider this a look back at the space before its next chapter. Stay tuned for the reveal next year.

A first impression that feels personal.

In this Houston home, the entryway sets the tone with sculptural custom pieces, warm brass accents, and art that tells a story. One of our favorite details? A piece of the client’s childhood artwork, displayed right alongside the more elevated moments of the space.

Fall is finally here, and we couldn’t be more excited. 🍂

As the days get shorter and the holidays start creeping onto the calendar, there’s something especially nice about gathering around a table with good food, family, and friends.

This dining room from one of our Highland Village projects feels ready for all of it. A rich green ceiling, patterned walls, sculptural lighting, and custom dining chairs give the room plenty of personality without taking away from what it’s really meant for: gathering.

Almost 20 years ago, I started with a little boutique on Westheimer and a love for design that began long before I knew it could be a career. ✨

Today, that love has grown into Laura U Design Collective. We're now a team of 17 incredible women, hundreds of homes, and a philosophy that's never changed: everything we do, we do for the love of home.

I'm also the co-founder of DesignDash, a mom of two, and wife to my biggest supporter, and every bit of this journey has been for them too.

Here's to the past (almost) 20 years, and to everything still ahead. 🥂

Sharing a few different angles of the living area from one of our newest projects in Hedwig Village.

Designed for a client who loves to host, this space was created with gathering in mind. Sculptural furnishings, warm brass accents, tailored drapery, and a mix of patterned textiles give the room plenty of character, while twin cocktail tables add a classic element alongside the more sculptural forms.

The result is a space that feels collected and personal, with plenty of room to bring people together.

A serene retreat with just the right amount of texture and contrast.

The client’s love of rich jewel tones can be felt throughout the home, and this primary bedroom brings that sensibility in through layered color, an ivory lattice wallpaper, and warm, inviting details. An upholstered canopy bed and alabaster pendants complete the space, creating a retreat that feels refined, personal, and effortlessly comfortable.

Moody, tailored, and quietly dramatic 👀

A deep, earthy palette sets the tone in this home office, where a sculptural chandelier, graphic floor-to-ceiling drapery, and warm wood details create a space with plenty of character. A custom desk with a cantilevered edge was designed to accommodate the homeowner’s height, while a fireplace and comfortable seating make the office feel as inviting as it is considered.
