A little BPR love in RUE in the Fall 2026 issue with Nate Berkus on the cover! ❤️ Featuring work with Amy Sklar Design Inc.

Knowing and working with Amy Sklar has been such an incredible ride.

As a boutique rug operation with heart in every bit of it, being recognized by the design community means more than I can say. 💙. Thank you, Amy and RUE, for this beautiful spotlight and mention of Blue Parakeet Rugs. There’s a great old antique rug from the collection having a wonderful moment and the female who wove that way up in the Caucasus mountains over a century ago should be pleased and proud, her art is in print.

Thank you to Meghan Bob for capturing it all so beautifully. 📷✨

Back on the Rug ’N’ Roll® trail, and this time into a beautiful 1930’s Spanish-style home with one heck of an arched picture window! ☀️

And what better pairing than an antique Persian Mahal from around the same era?

These lovely clients invited me back a couple of years after finding their first rug with me. This time, we were dressing their living room.

A few rugs were rolled out, and this antique Mahal was the winner. ❤️

Now, there’s a dog in the family who apparently has a thing for anything that looks a little too inviting. 🐾 And this old beauty had a small area along the edge where time had worn away some wool, exposing the foundation and leaving a few loose threads. Nothing too concerning, but something I wanted to secure before it caught the attention of their curious four-legged family member! 🐕

So out came needle and thread, and down on the floor I went, to secure the area to prevent further unraveling. Just a little preventative TLC for this old gal.

As I started stitching away, it was time for their son’s piano lesson. His teacher arrived, and I was on the floor with needle and thread, when the music began. 🎹 The kid can play!

And just like that, this ordinary little moment turned into something rather poetic.

There I was, quietly securing threads that have already lived a lifetime, tending to the handiwork of women from nearly a century ago. ⏳

One of those beautiful, unscripted moments you couldn’t plan if you tried.

I couldn’t help but think about all the hands this rug has passed through, all the places it’s been, and now here it is, settling into another home, becoming part of another family’s story, with a little piano music to welcome it. 🎼

The rugs may bring me through the door, but it’s the people and these unexpected little moments that stay with me.

P.S. Forgive the wobbly footage! 🤪 My phone was propped against my calf while I was sewing. Not exactly a professional filming setup, but I wasn’t about to miss this moment. 💙

The adventures these rugs take me on are everything that’s fun about what I do.

I found this rug through an older couple who were parting with it after moving from Northern California to Southern California. It had been in their family for generations, but in their new home, there simply wasn’t a room where it fit anymore.

So I drove a couple of hours down to Oceanside, near San Diego, to meet them and hear its story.

The rug once lived in her grandmother’s home in Germany, in a town near Hannover. She grew up with this rug, seeing it every summer when she visited her grandmother. 🤍

Her grandmother had inherited it in a pretty remarkable way. She worked as a housekeeper for a wealthy woman, and when the woman passed away, she left this antique Persian rug to her. When her grandmother later died, the rug went to her son, and when he passed, it came to the woman I was now standing with in Oceanside. 🌊

Rugs…carry us through time.

She asked me what her rug was, and I started explaining that it was an antique Persian Mahal, roughly 100 years old, woven in the village region of Mahal. 🧶

Her husband, a classic-car lover, suddenly said, “Wait a minute.”

He walked over and pulled the cover off this incredible 1937 classic Buick, complete with whitewall tires and red wheels. And then came another story: Bette Davis, Bob Hope and Marie Osmond had all been in this car. 🚙

He had eyed this car for a while and chased it down to acquire it, and this is something I know all too well, as I hunt down old rugs.

So there we were in their driveway, an antique Persian rug beside a 1937 automobile, bonding over art, history and the things people choose to preserve.

I rolled up the rug, I hugged them goodbye, and drove home with another little piece of someone’s family history.

And somehow, after all those generations, all those homes, Germany to California and nearly a century of life, this Mahal is still in superb condition.

I’m so elated this wonderful lady chose me as the rug’s next caretaker, as I know others were after it. It’s stunning with a superb and unusual color ground I can’t even make out.

Finally made it to Montecito to visit the JAMIE HALLER store 🛍️. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jamie in the 🏠interiors world, so getting to step into this other side of her creativity, and see her incredible talent for fashion up close was awesome. She moves between both worlds so naturally. What a powerful woman, creative mind and absolute force. 🤎
