THIS is why I do what I do.

Sure, I love designing, decorating and treasure hunting, but it’s the people behind the spaces that mean the most to me.

Everyone deserves to have a home that feels good to walk into. A space that feels like them, works for their life and brings them a little happiness every time they look around.

Being trusted to help create that for someone is something I’ll never take for granted. Knowing someone is sitting in their home tonight loving their space fills my heart to the core.

This is the good stuff. ❤️

58 degrees in Monticello this morning… I think fall finally got the memo. 🍂

There’s just something about the first chilly Saturday morning that makes you want to grab a coffee and wander around town a little.

There’s been such a fun buzz around The Rusty Quail lately. So many good conversations happening in the shop, lots of kind words, and quite a few “you know what would be fun…” conversations that have me thinking. 👀

We’ve got longer Friday and Saturday hours coming soon, along with a few other fun things I’ve been working on for this fall. I’m excited to see where it all goes.

For today, grab a coffee, enjoy this first little taste of fall and come wander around with us. The doors are open till 4:30 today. 🤎🍂

This one means more to me than I can say. 🤍

Bethany trusted me with a home that she truly loves, and being able to help prepare it for its next chapter was such a special project. And then the very first person through the door bought it at full asking price!

“I have to say something about what my dear friend Katie at The Rusty Quail did with my home, because calling it “home staging” just doesn’t do it justice.

When it came time to put my house on the market, I wanted it to be beautiful, of course, but more than that, I wanted people to feel something when they walked through the door. The day I walked into the Rusty Quail I knew I needed her to help me. The store took my breath away.
This has never been just a house to me. It has been a home, filled with animals and people and laughter and heartbreak and a whole lot of life.

Katie understood that.

She has such an extraordinary eye, but what impressed me most was that she didn’t come in and make my home look like somebody else’s idea of what a “staged”house should look like. I wanted my home to have a soul. She somehow took what was already here and brought the very best of it forward.

When she was finished, the house felt like a great big warm hug wrapping its arms around you the minute you walked into the porch.

There is a softness and a warmth to it now that is hard to put into words. Living here feels a little like having warm honey poured over you — golden, comforting, peaceful and sweet. And somehow Katie managed to make the house look the way it has always felt to me.

And apparently, that feeling translated.

The very first person who walked through the door, on the very first day the house was shown, bought it. And I got my full asking price.

I don’t think you can ask for a better testament to the value of good staging than that.

What Katie does takes more than knowing where to put a chair or how to style a table. It takes an instinct for what makes a home feel like home — and for helping someone else walk through the door and begin imagining that it could be their home.

If you are selling your house, or even if you simply have a house you love but can’t quite figure out how to pull everything together, Katie has a gift for seeing what a space can be.

I couldn’t recommend her more highly. Beyond her artistic ability she is also a lovely woman in every way.

A little something different from The Rusty Quail 🤍

I’m excited to share a recent home staging project I had the opportunity to be a part of.

The goal for this home was to make it feel warm, welcoming and special. We wanted someone to walk through the door and instantly feel at home, while still giving each room character and those little details that make a space memorable.

So much thought went into bringing it all together, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.

Home staging and styling is another service you can find at The Rusty Quail, and I’m excited to share more of this side of what I do.
