Nathan Michael Great Design Is For Everyone.

Some things look great online, but then they show up in your living room. Wrong scale. Wrong tone. Wrong material.

A big part of interior design is knowing what will actually work together before the boxes start arriving. Sorry, Wayfair 🙃

Some things look great online, but when they show up in your living room…it’s another story. Wrong scale. Wrong tone. Wrong material.

A big part of interior design is knowing what will actually work together before the boxes start arriving. Sorry, Bezos.

Sometimes the room doesn’t need more furniture. It just needs a rug that fits the space. A rug should belong to the whole seating area, not just the coffee table. Give your furniture somewhere to land, your dining chairs room to move, and your feet a soft landing beside the bed. Those practical details are often what make a room feel finished.

And before you order, tape out the dimensions on your floor. Much easier to rearrange painter’s tape than return a rug.

Save this before you convince yourself the smaller size will be fine.

that ties the whole room together.

Loving earth tones is easy. Making them work together takes a little intention.

Think beyond the paint swatch: cream walls, a chocolate sofa, an ochre chair. Or olive upholstery with terracotta pots and a pale, textured rug. The pairing gets you started. The proportions bring it together.

Let one color lead, give the richer tones some breathing room, and leave a little space for contrast. Warm doesn’t have to mean one-note.

Save this for your next paint or fabric decision.

Which pairing would you bring home?

Your TV can stay. It just shouldn’t be the architect of your living room.

Too often, every chair, sofa, and sightline is arranged around the screen. The result may function well for movie night, but it rarely creates a room that feels inviting, layered, or connected.

Instead, absorb the TV into shelving, conceal it when it’s not in use, blend it into a gallery wall, or move it into a den designed specifically for watching.

A simple test: walk into your living room and notice where everything points. Is the room arranged around a screen, or around the people who gather there?

The best living rooms make conversation the focal point.

Cold eggs aren’t the problem. Low standards are.

I was in an airport lounge recently staring at cold scrambled eggs and a sad cheese tray while someone next to me said, “Man, this is the life.”
And I get it. It’s better than the terminal. But when did slightly better become good enough?

Great experiences aren’t always more expensive. They’re more thoughtful.

Better decisions. Better details. More intention.

Don’t give people the cold eggs version.

Design for the experience, not the minimum.

AI can make hospitality faster. Smarter. More efficient.

But that’s not why we go back to places.

We go back because someone remembered us. Noticed something. Made the experience feel personal without being asked.

AI can remove friction. But it can’t replace instinct, care, or the feeling of being genuinely looked after.
And the more automated the world becomes, the more valuable those moments will be.

The future of hospitality isn’t less human. It’s more intentional.
