Timeless Design for New builds, Renovations, and Developments
Newport Beach, California

Classic architecture, contemporary ex*****on. That’s not just a tagline, it’s how we work.

JH2 is a Newport Beach firm built around one idea: architecture and interior design shouldn’t be separate conversations. When both live under one roof, every material choice and every proportion serves the same vision, and we stay through construction to make sure what you see on paper is what you come home to.

Twenty plus years of experience, one founder, one team, one integrated process from feasibility study to final walkthrough.

Who says we need walls?

At JH2, indoor-outdoor architecture isn’t an add-on, it’s the starting point. Kitchens and living spaces open directly onto verandahs, courtyards, and gardens through pocket doors and folding glass walls, so the line between inside and out becomes a choice, not a fixed boundary.

It’s built on classical technique: cross ventilation, deep overhangs, covered transitions that keep a space livable in full sun or filtered shade. The result is architecture that doesn’t ask you to pick a mode. Host ten people at a table under the eaves, or close it all up for a quiet night in. The house adapts to the moment instead of the other way around.

Building on the California coast isn’t just architecture.
It’s engineering.
It’s presenting your plans to city council.
It’s knowing three different code structures inside and out.

And it’s a little bit of magic,
the kind that only comes from jumping through tons of hoops before.

Find out what JH2 founder June Her has to say about decades of coastal-specific building experience.

Sit down with June as she lifts the veil on the Crustacean SF design.

What used to be a bodega turned one of the best restaurants in SF. A custom bar built to hang from a concrete ceiling. The material palette inspired by old Shanghai. And a three-hour dinner that finally let her see it all come together.

Where the Mediterranean meets the California coast.

The Crystal Cove residence was designed from the inside out.

Natural light, cross ventilation, and an interior that moves between marble and oak, clean lines and tactile warmth.

Elevated without feeling untouchable.

Outside, white stucco and steel-framed windows frame views across Newport Coast.

Classic in its bones, timeless in every detail.

The Rosalind House, in June’s words.

A Tudor remodel that began as an ADU consultation and turned into three years of meticulous collaboration. Custom walnut parquet. Hand-drawn paneling wrapped around a curved staircase. Three city hearings over some very expensive windows.

A new look for JH2.

Classic principles, contemporary ex*****on. Our refreshed brand reflects what we’ve always believed: that good design honors both the past and the present.

The wordmark draws on a modern serif - feminine, structural, and considered. The secondary mark is a seal, inspired by the Korean dojang, a nod to the Eastern design philosophy woven into everything we create. Colors drawn from the California coast.

A brand built to last.

Introducing, Rosalind House

Classical architecture is all about proportion and an understanding of materials. This Tudor remodel in San Marino was an exercise in exactly that, from hand-drawn wall paneling to a staircase that, in June’s words, feels like a movie.
