More detail is being revealed in the historic apse mural of Our Lady of Częstochowa Polish Catholic Church in Worcester, Massachusetts, as sacred artists remove layers of age and surface buildup to uncover the original composition beneath. Dappled light now falls across the restored imagery like a quiet reminder of divine presence within the sanctuary, bringing forward forms long subdued by time.

This early concept sketch for one of the liturgical murals at Divine Mercy Parish in Blackstone, Massachusetts, offers a glimpse into the artistic process behind the finished sacred artwork—from refined facial expressions and layered shading to historically informed details that help transport parishioners into the drama and emotion of the biblical scene.

Depicting Saul’s conversion on the road to Damascus, the mural was designed to draw viewers into the moment Christ revealed Himself to Saul and called him into a new life of faith and mission. The scene reminds parishioners that no one is beyond God’s mercy, that conversion is possible for every soul, and that God can transform even persecution and suffering into powerful witness and evangelization. Through multiple iterations and close collaboration with church leadership, every compositional detail was refined to create a sacred mural that not only beautifies the church interior, but also teaches the faith through visual storytelling rooted in the Catholic tradition.

We recently completed the restoration of the Blessed Mother and Child and St. Joseph statues for the side shrines in the Dunlap Family Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Seton LaSalle Catholic High School in Pittsburgh.

Carefully repairing damage, renewing finishes, and preserving the character of these beloved sacred statues was one of the most meaningful parts of this project. Seeing them returned to the chapel and once again surrounding students, families, and the school community made the work especially rewarding.

Still one of our most-read reflections on what it means for a Catholic church to be named a Minor Basilica, and what this reveals about the role of sacred art and liturgical tradition in the life of the Church.

For pastors and parish communities considering the care or renewal of Catholic worship spaces, it offers a thoughtful look at how beauty and devotion shape parish identity.
