At the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption in Marietta, Ohio, we created these miniature Carrara marble statues of contemporary saints for the baptismal font, including St. John the Baptist. Gathered around the font, the saints connect Baptism with the communion of the Church and the lives of those who have gone before us in faith.

The same white marble was used for the miniature figures of Christ and the Twelve Apostles on the Italian marble altar, tying the baptismal font and altar together. These details are an important part of Catholic sacred art, helping parishioners see the Faith expressed throughout the church and the relationship between its sacraments, saints, and sacred art.

We recently came across this extraordinary black-and-white visionary sketch in our archives by the esteemed liturgical artist Rudolph N. Rohn. Jesus Christ stands at the center, with God the Father above, surrounded by scenes from pivotal moments in Catholic Church history: the First Council of Nicaea in 325, the East–West Schism of 1054, the Council of Florence and its efforts toward reunion in 1438–1439, and the historic 1965 declaration of Pope Paul VI and Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras I lifting the mutual excommunications of 1054.

What makes this image so powerful is the way it places Christ at the heart of the Church’s long journey toward unity. For Catholics, these moments are not simply events of the past. They remind us of the enduring call to remain one in Christ and to pray and work together for the Church. It is a beautiful example of how Catholic sacred art and Catholic church murals can bring faith, history, and hope into a powerful visual expression.

Swipe to see the transformation of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Copiague, New York, rebuilt after a devastating fire. Rohn Design developed the church’s sacred and liturgical art program, including custom church murals depicting Marian themes such as the Seven Sorrows of Mary, restored historic statues, Stations of the Cross, and a cohesive interior design that brings the sanctuary together. From the original sketches and color renderings to the finished murals and artwork, every element was developed to work within the architecture and tell the story of the Catholic faith.

This Nativity window concept sketch by Renate Rohn was created for a client as part of the development of a custom stained glass design. The Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and the Christ Child are surrounded by shepherds, Magi, and angels, with each figure thoughtfully developed to reflect its place in the story of Christ’s Nativity.

A powerful moment during the installation of the monumental Holy Trinity crucifix at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Visalia, California, as God the Father is carefully lifted into place under the direction of liturgical designer Rolf Rohn.

Created for a newly united parish bringing together four communities, the crucifix gives visible expression to their becoming one Church, gathered around Christ. With God the Father above the crucified Christ, the sculpture places the mystery of the Holy Trinity at the center of the sanctuary and at the heart of the new parish community.
