A little sneak peek inside Milo the Mockingbird—and what is quickly becoming one of my favorite spreads! 🖤🐦

This is the moment Milo begins to realize the truth that’s been inside him all along. Some of my favorite writing in the entire book lives on these pages.

And Abigail’s illustrations? Absolutely beautiful. 🖤 From the little creatures and blossoms to my dad’s AMX and the tiny train, I love all the thoughtful details she’s tucked into these pages.

Did you know Rocco the Raccoon started it all? 🖤

It was a drawing of Rocco and a roll of toilet paper that sealed the deal for me. I knew Abigail was the only person I wanted to bring Milo to life!

I’m thankful for the market that brought us together. I’m thankful Abigail persevered and showed up that day, even when she didn’t feel like it. And I’m so thankful for this beautiful story and all the doors it’s opened along the way.

It’s funny how something as silly as a raccoon and a roll of toilet paper can turn into something so meaningful.

So, if you ever spot a raccoon clay piece at our booth, now you know why we have such a soft spot for raccoons! 🖤

Something you may not know about Milo the Mockingbird… 🖤

His story was inspired by something I wish every child understood, especially my two kiddos!

I wrote Milo for the little girl who comes home from school wondering why someone doesn’t like her.

For the little boy who starts changing things about himself because someone made him feel different.

And for the parents who wish they knew exactly what to say to make it better.

The truth is, we can’t protect our children from every unkind word. As much as we’d like to, we won’t always be there when someone says something hurtful.

But we can teach them that those words don’t define who they are.

That’s why I wrote Milo the Mockingbird: A Woodsland Story.

I wanted to create a story that parents could read with their children before those difficult moments happen. Something they could come back to when they need a reminder that being different doesn’t mean being less.

If that’s a message you want your child to grow up believing, I hope you’ll consider adding Milo to your bookshelf.
