Enjoy some progress photos of my garage pottery studio! I’ve spent the afternoon setting up my pottery studio. I’m trying to be resourceful and use things I have around the house.

We’ve have an old piano in our garage since we bought the house. It’s my new wedging surface.

I am using an old shelf, which will get hung tomorrow, for extra storage along with a rack for my apron.

I found some old paint and am paining a checkerboard pattern, which I think will be beautiful.

I have some old patio lights and some artwork I’ll hang.

Then I’ll have to get creative to turn my spigot into a shop sink.

All in all it’s shaping up to be the perfect space.

This week has been a an exciting one. 🖤

Tuesday’s at Adam’s Flying Pig are easily become my favorite night of the week. 🪶☕️

Abigail and I met up to work through the first few spreads of Milo the Mockingbird, and they are coming together better than I could have imagined. Her talent continues to shine.

I also finalized a really special surprise this week for our “First Flight” preorders, and I cannot wait to share more about that soon. 👀 It’s so hard not to tell you all!

And Woodsland & Co. has a busy season coming up!

We’ll be at River Days Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5:00–10:00 PM, and we’ll also be at the ECDI Maker’s Market on October 10th from 10-3!

A lot is happening behind the scenes right and I cannot wait to share more! Stay thoughtful, and go spread some joy!🖤✌🏻

So in addition to polymer clay sculpting and writing a children’s book, I’m also taking a pottery class! Let’s just say…it’s harder than it looks. 🤪🫠

See below for my only two successful attempts so far. 😂 The first was way too thick, and I’m sorta proud of the second, but I still have so much to learn. 🖤

Tiny correction before y’all come for me…

I accidentally swapped my literary terms:

🐦 Milo the Mockingbird = protagonist
💙 The Blue Jay = antagonist

Apparently I can write an entire children’s book but cannot be trusted to use “protagonist” and “antagonist” correctly while talking to a camera. 🤦🏼‍♀️

The rest still stands, though. 🖤

Milo the Mockingbird is a story about what happens when someone else’s words make us question what we know about ourselves and the people who help us remember.

So please enjoy the video, forgive the literary fumble, and mentally switch those two words for me.

Stay thoughtful, and go spread some joy!🖤

COVER ART REVEAL!!! 🖤

After months of writing and revising, hours of dreaming and imagining with Abigail, and one failed attempt, we finally get to show you the cover of Milo the Mockingbird.

I hope you love it as much as we do! Drop some appreciation for Abigail’s amazing work in the comments!🖤

Author’s Note:

“The Blue Jay’s words weren’t stones, but they hurt just as much. They filled Milo’s thoughts… Am I enough? ”

Words hurt. We have all heard the age old mantra: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

Well, I think by now we all know that’s “cap.” 🤪

Sometimes people say something to us, and we choose to accept it as truth. We allow their words to shape who we are and, more importantly, what we believe about ourselves.

But here’s the thing. Something can hurt and still not be true.

Who we are, our inherent value, does not shift because someone decided to be a Blue Jay. (Blue Jay is the new Karen.) ✌🏻

I am a believer, so I believe my identity is rooted in Christ and who He says that I am. I also believe that every human being has inherent value because we are made in the image of God. Our value does not begin with belief, and it certainly isn’t determined by another person’s opinion of us.

And even if you don’t share my faith, the truth remains that someone else’s judgment of you does not become fact simply because they said it.

Words can hurt. Especially when they come from someone we love, respect, or trust. The lesson isn’t that we shouldn’t let words hurt us.

It’s that hurt is not proof.

Someone else’s words do not automatically deserve a place in the way we see ourselves.

In a world where people sometimes use their words to hurt, we all need to understand and accept this:

Who you are doesn’t change because someone said something about you.

And if you have wee ones, teach them this:

“Who you are doesn’t bend with the wind.
It’s held deep inside where it’s always been!
Blue Jays will come, they may even stay,
but they don’t decide who you are in your way!”

Happy Monday, friends!

Stay thoughtful, and go spread some joy! 🖤✌🏻
