Timeless, but never expected. A quiet palette, sculptural forms and warm, layered details create a living room that feels effortless, sophisticated and distinctly personal.

Yesterday at DeSousa Hughes, we had the chance to experience Alison Berger’s newest collection in person. The way the light moved through the glass was incredible.

Alison works with light as her medium and glass as her material, using age-old glassworking techniques paired with beautifully crafted metal details. Her pieces have a timeless quality, somehow old-world and distinctly modern at once.

We’re drawn to pieces where material, craftsmanship, and atmosphere come together. Watching the glass transform with the light was a beautiful reminder of how the right piece can shape the way a space feels.

Welcoming a new week with the door wide open. There’s something about a fresh start that feels a lot like good design: thoughtful, uncluttered, and full of possibility. Clean lines, refined details, and a minimalist approach create an entrance that feels both simple and intentional.

This is one of our favorite projects, and a perfect reminder of how thoughtful design can make a lasting impression from the moment you walk through the door.

Here’s to opening the door to fresh ideas, inspired spaces, and a beautifully designed week ahead. Happy Monday.

Going into the weekend with a little of last Sunday’s inspiration still with us. Artist Jayne Miller Biehn joined us at the studio, and we’re delighted to have her work here a while longer.

If a piece catches your eye, stop by to see it in person or give us a call at 925.298.5381 to arrange a visit. All of the work on view is available for purchase.

This week’s project update: drywall is in, and suddenly it’s starting to feel like a room.

Going from this to that is always one of the most satisfying parts of the process. Walls are up, the vision is coming into focus, and we’re checking—and triple-checking—every measurement before moving on to the next stage.

It may not be the prettiest stage of a project, but getting the details right now makes all the difference when the finishes start to take shape.

In the studio with Jayne Biehn!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of celebrating Jayne and her incredible work at our Open Studio.

Evocative, expressive, and beautifully layered, her pieces bring depth and energy to a space—a reminder of how the right artwork can completely transform a room.

Another highlight? Meeting Diesel, Jayne’s dog and the perfect greeter for the day. 🐾

If you missed the event, her work will remain on display at KHI. Reach out to schedule a viewing or learn more about available pieces.

Now comes the hard part... picking a favorite. We love them all.

Which piece is your favorite? Tell us below 👇

Weekend ready. ✨ Our clients wanted a home where indoor and outdoor living felt effortless—where dinner could begin around the table and naturally spill outside for drinks, conversation, and a little more time together.

We designed these spaces to flow seamlessly from one to the next, creating plenty of room to gather, entertain, and make the most of beautiful California weekends.

Exactly where we’d like to be heading into the weekend.

Where would you settle in first—the dining table or outside by the fire?

A little behind-the-scenes reality: design work isn’t always glamorous. Sometimes it’s dust, scaffolding, stone, and a whole lot of coordination.

The stonework is going up at our client’s home, and while this stage may look a little like madness, it’s also when months of decisions and details start coming together. We can’t wait to see this one finished.

The messy middle is part of the process.

The only kind of Monday blues we’re interested in. 💙

Immersed in rich ocean tones and anchored by a sculptural solid marble pedestal sink, this powder bath proves that a small space can make a big statement.

Dramatic, unexpected, and full of personality, exactly how we like it.
