ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Ben Kosberg
Alumnus Ben Kosberg created the Red and Black Brass Band in 2020. Check out information on Ben, and the group (below).
Benjamin Harrison Kosberg writes,
"I've mostly doing the same thing since I was a teenager. I'm building things and playing music. In college, I added being an Educator to my skills to live by. As a builder, I currently specialize in wooden resin inlay furniture pieces. Examples can be found on Kozzy Bear Creations socials. As an educator, I've worked for the Magic House and volunteer work for educational nonprofits. I am still looking for my long term place in education. If you have a non profit with a need for a vocational education specialty I can send a resume. Most successfully and graciously I am the Tuba-Sousaphone-Bass Horn-Tin Can player for the Red And Black Brass Band. A New Orleans Style Brass Band based in St. Louis, MO. Since being apart of founding R&BBB, in 2020, I have apart of playing hundreds of hours of music to get people listening to move fast and dance. All while growing a business that has lead to grand opportunities and stages, and continues to grow. "

The Red and Black Brass Band was created in April of 2020 after Ben Kosberg (bass horn) and Dominique Burton (trombone) took to the street to cheer up the neighborhood. 2.5 million Twitter views later, the band was formed. A dream that had been fueled and talked about for years by the 8 members of this creative ensemble became real and R & BBB has been on the upswing ever since. Born out of a pandemic, the goal was what it will always remain; to bring love and joy through the spirit of music and to help us all remember that we still have much to be grateful for.
The Red and Black Brass Band quickly became highly recognized by many in the great city of St. Louis, MO and were always met with smiles, dancing feet, and tears of joy. The blend of powerful horns and smooth singing with an array of music genres over a New Orleans Second line beat sets this band apart from many as they pay homage to the music so deeply embedded for most of its members, since birth. “We just want to have some fun and make the people feel good. We’re available for any occasion. Come and party with the Red and Black.”
