Designing a Child's Room: Where Fun Meets Function

A great kids' room isn't just decorated, it's designed to spark imagination. This one takes the shape of a jungle expedition, complete with a hand-painted cloud ceiling, a leather aeroplane bed as the centrepiece, and a mural that turns the whole wall into a scene worth exploring.

One bold move, like that zebra print rug, anchors the space, while modular cubbies, a reading nook and a study corner all give the room room to grow with the child.

Playful doesn't mean disposable. Quality materials mean this space matures as they do.

Good lighting is rarely one fixture doing all the work.

We build every room in layers: an ambient layer for overall glow, task lighting where you actually work or read, and accent lighting to pick out art, texture or a favourite corner. Sculptural pendants and warm, dimmable glows are having a real moment this year, and they are just as easy to bring into an existing space as a new build.

If your living room feels flat after dark, it is usually a lighting gap, not a furniture one.
