If you sleep hot, you’ve probably given plenty of thought to your sheets and quilt.

What’s underneath your sheets tends to get less attention. A protector or underlay often stays on the bed through every change of season, even as we swap the layers above it.

Next time you change your sheets, have a look at what’s underneath, what it’s made from and how it feels to sleep on. It’s a useful place to start before buying more bedding.

The tricky part of spring bedding is that one night can feel like two seasons.

Before changing your whole setup, notice when you’re uncomfortable: too warm when you first get into bed, or reaching for more cover towards morning? That’s a useful starting point for deciding what to change.

Are you a quilt-on, quilt-off sleeper at this time of year?

Microplastics are one of those things you do not really notice, but they can be part of everyday life at home.

They are tiny plastic particles and fibres that can shed from synthetic materials like polyester, acrylic and nylon.

In the home, that can mean bedding, blankets, rugs, curtains, carpets, clothes and other soft furnishings.

The tricky part is that these are the things we live closest to. We sleep in them, wash them, fold them, shake them out, wear them and breathe around them every day.

That is why natural fibres are worth thinking about, especially in the bedroom.

Cotton, linen and wool are not just beautiful to sleep in and live with. They are breathable, durable, comfortable, and they do not shed plastic fibres in the same way synthetic fabrics can.

It is not about changing everything at once. It is about making better choices when the time comes to replace something.

Start with the things closest to your skin: sheets, pillowcases, quilt covers, towels, sleepwear and throws.

Every product starts somewhere.

This one began with a trip to one of the partners we work with in India, where we got to see the yarns, looms, samples and makers behind the finished throws.

There is something pretty special about seeing a piece before it becomes the thing you fold over your sofa, keep at the end of the bed, or reach for on a cool night.

It reminds us that the little details really do matter: the fibre, the weave, the feel, and the care that goes into making something well.

Chosen with care, made for your home.

We always like seeing things in person. Photos are helpful, but being there tells you so much more.

A little look inside one of the partners we work with in India.

Walking the floor, chatting with the people there, and seeing how each piece slowly comes together.

This is the kind of detail we love. The fibre, the weave, the feel, all before it becomes the finished throw.

The small things are usually the big things in the end.

From their hands to your home, chosen with care along the way.

Choosing natural goes beyond the fibres in our products.

The grain, knots and natural variation in timber give each of our stores a warmth and character of its own. No two pieces are quite the same, and that is part of the appeal.

It is the same thinking that draws us to natural fibres. Simple materials, chosen well and made to be lived with.

What natural material do you love having in your home?

Polyester does not always look like plastic. Once it has been spun into a soft fabric, it is easy to forget what it is made from.

Over time, synthetic fabrics can shed tiny plastic fibres through everyday wear and washing. That does not mean clearing out everything you already own. The practical place to start is to use what you have for as long as it lasts.

Then, when something genuinely needs replacing, check the fibre label and choose natural where you can.

It is one of the reasons natural fibres have always mattered to us. At the end of their useful life, they can break down naturally rather than remaining as plastic.
