An evening of Knot tying is so relaxing!

The red cord (fender keyrings) was made by me with Maurice Brassard weaving thread, and the natural coloured bracelet is some flax net making cord given to me by a retired net maker. He said it is 100 years old!

The fender on left is 6 strand and the one on right is 8 strand. Which do you prefer?

If anyone interested in how to make these get in touch!

More books! This time an impressive selection at the Maritime Museum of Tasmania here in Hobart.

I've posted photos before from this museum but they've moved things around so enjoy the new displays!

Staying on a knot book theme...today we went to Boglio books in Cygnet and asked if they had any knot books.

I've been keeping an eye on the book shops in Hobart for knot books and am impressed to find ABOK in more than one!

The rope maker!

07/06/2026

What a great excuse to get out the traditional rope maker! I'm at Forbes Avenue in West Hobart where they're having a street party!

I'm told rope making was done here in the 1800s. How cool!

More photos later!

A few of my latest creations. The coloured cord made by me from sewing thread. The natural cord is 100 year old flax fish netting 3 ply cord.

A few years ago I did my first glass fishing float netting but used jute string (I was only at the beginning of my journey in to knots!). The owner has asked me to replace it as it has broken in the weather. This time I used 100 year old flax that had been carefully stored by a retired net maker business owner. Hopefully this will last a bit longer. I admit I did it by eye and not with a constant measuring device but I like it anyway!
