🌿 MY WHY: Creating spaces with heart and purpose

At Studio Chintamani, design is about so much more than aesthetics—it's about making a meaningful difference in people's lives.

Why am I so passionate about this work?

Because I truly believe the spaces we inhabit can influence how we feel, think, connect, and heal.

For me, biophilic design is more than just bringing nature inside or creating beautiful spaces.

It's about people. It's about our connection to nature. It's about understanding the extraordinary relationship between our minds, our bodies, and the natural world. 🌱

It's about creating environments that nurture, not overwhelm—spaces that offer refuge, spark curiosity, encourage connection, and help us thrive.

And it's about recognising that human wellbeing and ecological wellbeing go hand in hand. They are deeply interconnected, and both deserve our care.

This vision is at the heart of why I founded Studio Chintamani.

I’m here to challenge how we think about our built environments, and to explore how thoughtful design can help create healthier people, stronger communities, and a thriving natural world.

BE BOLD, BE AUDACIOUS, BE OUTRAGEOUS.

Because I believe design should do more than just look good.

It should do good—for you, for our communities, and for the planet. 💚

This is what drives me every day. This is my passion, my purpose—my WHY.

I'd love to hear from you: How does the space around you shape how you feel?

What if the spaces around us could actually change the way we experience life? 🌿

The way a space makes us feel isn’t just about how it looks. It can influence how our brains function, how present we feel, and how we connect with the world around us.

In this reel, I’m exploring why good design should be more than something we simply look at.

What if the spaces around us are influencing us more than we realise? 🌿

We often focus on how a space looks, but rarely stop to consider how it makes us feel.

Our environments can shape our mood, energy and everyday experiences in ways we might not even notice.

And that's where biophilic design invites us to think differently.

What if interior design was about more than what we see? 🌿

More than beautiful spaces, carefully chosen materials and the latest trends.

What if design could reconnect us with nature, influence how we feel and support the way we live?

At Studio Chintamani, we believe great design goes beyond aesthetics.

It's about creating spaces that feel as good as they look.

A different way to think about interior design. ✨

What if the spaces we create could do more than just look beautiful? 🌿

They could influence how we feel, think, and function.

In this reel, I’m sharing a little more about why I’m passionate about biophilic design and why it’s about so much more than simply adding plants to a space.

In this reel, I’m sharing a little more about what I’m exploring through biophilic design, and why I believe we need to start thinking differently about the environments we create.

I didn't understand how important biophilic design could be until I was the person who needed it.

When I was in a trauma centre, my nervous system was already overwhelmed. And suddenly the environment around me mattered enormously.

Whether I felt exposed or protected or any connection to nature or anything that helped my body feel like it could come down from high alert.

One day it might be you in ICU. It might be you walking into a crisis centre at the worst moment of your life.

It might be someone you love sitting in a hospital room frightened and overwhelmed.

Don't wait until you're the person in that room to realise how much the room matters.

We have an opportunity to think about these environments differently now.

Not simply: Is it functional? Is it compliant? Does it look good?

But:

What is this space asking of a nervous system that's already in meltdown?

That's one of the reasons I'm so passionate about neurobiophilic design.

Because sometimes the people who most need thoughtful design are the people with the least capacity to tolerate an environment that gets it wrong.

MORE GLASS DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN MORE
CONNECTION TO NATURE.

I want to know what it's like to be in that building on a s**tty Tuesday three years later.

That's the part of design I'm interested in.

A school isn't experienced once.

Neither is a hospital, a workplace, crisis accommodation or a community building.

People live with our design decisions.

Every. Single. Day.

Look at my case study on Biophilic Design. 🌿

This is what happens when we stop thinking about design as simply making a space look good…

…and start asking what the space is doing for the people inside it.

In this case study, I’m sharing what I discovered, what changed, and why it matters.

Watch the reel to see the full story.

Because the future of design isn’t just about how spaces look.

It’s about how they help us live.

Recently, I travelled to the University of Oxford to speak at the World Leaders Summit – Oxford 2026, where I received an award for Neuro-Biophilic Innovation.

Pretty bloody amazing.

But what nobody knew was that receiving the award wasn't actually the biggest achievement for me.

Getting there was.

I had a massive fear of travelling overseas on my own.

And this time, I challenged myself to do it.

I got on the plane.

I navigated my way across the other side of the world.

I stood on that stage at Oxford.

And I DID IT!!!

It made me think about the questions we ask ourselves when we're standing on the edge of something that scares the s**t out of us.

What if I actually did it?

What if I stopped waiting until I felt ready?

What if I made the bolder move?

What might be waiting for me on the other side of that fear?

Sometimes the achievement everyone sees isn't actually the achievement that changes you.

I went to Oxford to speak and receive an award.

I came home knowing I could do things I'd previously convinced myself I couldn't.

So maybe the question isn't "Am I scared?"

Maybe it's:
"What could happen if I did it anyway?"
