Step through the front door of this contemporary home and step into a world of lakes and trees, natural light, the turquoise, blues and greens of water and ice, and the changing shades of wood. Owners, Heidi and Mark, are both outdoor enthusiasts, as well as art and antique collectors, and their home is an eclectic mix of antique, vintage and modern, creating a cozy and elegant vibe. ‘The Cottage’ features classic hickory wood floors, a polished oak staircase, a prize collection of Canadian art, and unique lighting that includes frozen icicle chandeliers and wine barrel hoop pendants. Priceless century-old Indonesian brass bells, a stunning 1860 Scottish Drumhead clock, and an ancestral walnut dining suite are mixed with contemporary pieces. A spectacular attribute is the vista of their beautifully treed garden. Nature pours in through their picture windows – Vanderwolf pines, Japanese Cedar, and the blues and greens of spruce.

Designing a bathroom for aging in place requires careful consideration of both form and function. When our clients shared their aspirations for a space that would meet their evolving needs, we set out to create a design that was both beautiful and practical. The result features a large curb-less shower with understated grab bars, a spacious double wide entry, a bench and secondary sprayer for seated bathing. We also included single handle faucets, and user friendly drawer pulls for dexterity. There is even a smart toilet with heated bidet seat and automatic flush. While these details may not be apparent in a pretty photograph, they are essential to the design's success. Goal achieved!
